MatchVid of the Day: FilipinoChamp vs ChoiBoy (SSF4)

The only reason i’m posting this match is because of the awesome full-screen Sagat Tiger Cannon ultra juggle setup in the second round. Also the clapping.

players: FilipinoChamp (Dhalsim-U1) vs ChoiBoy (Sagat-U2)

observations:
From now on, the proper use of ultrafreeze shall be furious mashing followed by loud clapping. Take note of 0:30 and tell your friends, or better yet show them. The awesome Sagat combo happens at 1:51. Sagat throws a full-screen EX low Tiger Shot which collides with Dhalsim’s Yoga Fire, freezing it briefly before it knocks Dhalsim down. Sagat follows up with a full-screen Tiger Cannon ultra to take the round. SSF4!

For his second tool-assisted choreographed 3rd Strike match, DevilAzite chose Ken and Dudley as his puppets. This one’s more dynamic than the first, with more parries and faster action.

New Features Section Added

If you look up at the menu bar, you’ll notice a new Features button between the Video Archive and Resources links. So what’s the difference between Features and Resources?

Well, the Resources and Guides section will now contain general reference articles and basic essential information that you’d want at a moment’s notice. They’ll focus mainly on core game engine breakdowns and video production tutorials.

On the other hand, the Features section will house all other exclusive ComboVid articles in reverse chronological order. Think magazine columns. Eventually it’ll be filled with fascinating discoveries, technical insights, multimedia galleries, and even strategy discussions.

Hopefully you guys will enjoy everything we have in store – and if not, please don’t hesitate to give us honest feedback and let us know.

MatchVid of the Day: Desora vs SAW (CvS2)

Had enough CvS2 silliness? Didn’t think so. These are the last two matches out of twenty between SAW and Desora for for the Capcom vs SNK 2 EX-Groove World Title (or something).

players: Desora (EX-Iori/Raideso/Singo-2) vs SAW (EX-Sinsen93/Singo/MidoLi-2 and Yun)

observations:
At 1:47, strange as it sounds I’m positive Desora did this on purpose. What’s amazing is how little this seems to effect them, as they both manage to preform anti-airs and juggles without any problem. 2:23 holy crap look at the guard damage; wait so R1 Raiden does crap loads of damage too. Some very nice ambiguous cross-ups and constant pressure finishes it off. 3:35, 40% hp is a fair trade off a low short for no meter right? 4:06, of course Raiden manages 70% off a crossup for 1 meter. 5:08, wow Yun couldn’t do that in 3S. 5:30 clever counter setup and Yun’s life bar disappears. 6:04 not sure why Desora decides to do a Singo kick, but SAW punishment is clearly excessive. Desora is way too pro to give up and almost wins with his reliable super setup, but SAW learns his lesson from the first two times.

SF3:3S TAS Fight: Hugo vs Alex by DevilAzite

After his older 3rd Strike videos were posted on SRK, DevilAzite asked everyone to nominate two characters for a choreographed match, ending up with Hugo vs Alex! The fun of watching something like this isn’t the combos, but rather the characters interacting in interesting ways.

highlights:
SF3:3S Alex jumping over Hugo’s running grab at 1:04 to make it whiff so he can punish on the ground, Alex sleeper hold KO combo at 1:11, and Hugo standing 720 vs Alex EX elbow at 1:34

Darkstalkers Hitboxes

In this article we’ll look at some noteworthy hitboxes from Darkstalkers series. The first Darkstalkers game is also known as Vampire, and Night Warriors is also known as Vampire Hunter. Vampire Savior, Vampire Hunter 2 and Vampire Savior 2 are basically the same game with small differences.

To see these animating before your own eyeballs, follow the same drill in the SF2 article, and use the same script that shows the SFA boxes.

Lilith’s Soul Flash is just a couple pixels lower than Morrigan’s Soul Fist. This is enough of a difference that Jon Talbain can’t walk under it.

MatchVid of the Day: CaliPower vs Bokkin (SSF4)

Who doesn’t enjoy watching a good comeback? This may not be from a major tournament, but that doesn’t make it any less fun to root for the … well, i guess we can’t call him an underdog.

players: CaliPower (Ryu-U1) vs BOKKIN (Cammy-U1)

observations:
Lesson number one: Don’t showboat when you can win the round with a basic combo. Lesson number two: Sometimes you have to break the rules. Looking at 3:30 onward, you may be asking yourself why Valle didn’t just play that way from the beginning. Well, the answer is that it’s not best way to play that matchup. It really isn’t. But there are moments when you have to realize that your gameplan is shot to hell and it’s time to switch to Plan F. (And it doesn’t hurt to know that your opponent is scared of you as well.)
