MatchVid of the Day: CaliPower vs Bokkin (SSF4)

Who doesn’t enjoy watching a good comeback? This may not be from a major tournament, but that doesn’t make it any less fun to root for the … well, i guess we can’t call him an underdog.

players: CaliPower (Ryu-U1) vs BOKKIN (Cammy-U1)

observations:
Lesson number one: Don’t showboat when you can win the round with a basic combo. Lesson number two: Sometimes you have to break the rules. Looking at 3:30 onward, you may be asking yourself why Valle didn’t just play that way from the beginning. Well, the answer is that it’s not best way to play that matchup. It really isn’t. But there are moments when you have to realize that your gameplan is shot to hell and it’s time to switch to Plan F. (And it doesn’t hurt to know that your opponent is scared of you as well.)

I think my favorite part was the random dash-up ultra in the first round. It really hurts to lose that way

    • Maj says:

Yeah that’s a great example actually. It’s an awful idea normally and a terrible waste of meter, but then again why would you want to die with full meter? When you’re that close to losing, you may as well start thinking in terms of Hail Mary touchdown passes.

  2. n00b_saib0t says:

its not random when it connects :p

  3. fenris says:

Man, that’s a terrible way to drop the match, when you get a chance to put your opponent away, PUT THEM AWAY!!!

  4. Bob Sagat says:

Was it the announcer that shouted “I CAN’T BELIEVE IT!” after that missed combo, or the actual player?

  5. n00b_saib0t says:

    that would be the announcer

  6. Bokkin says:

Yo Maj I usually like your shit but I def wasn’t scared of valle or I wouldn’t even try to hang with him in footsies I was just lookin for an easy kill adn valle outsmarted me jumping when I was looking for a FB and FB when I was looking for a jump. You clearly don’t understand what is going on when I play. I have very few but a couple similar comebacks against him. Looking at one match is def not indicitave of player mentality get your shit straight.

    • Maj says:

Oh i wasn’t saying you specifically were scared of Valle specifically. I was saying that when someone guesses right two or three times in a row, it gets in the other guy’s head. That’s when/why comebacks work.

And if you’re the guy making the comeback, then you have to approach it “knowing that your opponent is scared of you as well.” I mean, you can’t tell me that watching that lead slip away didn’t affect you at all …
