MatchVid of the Day: a-cho 4-on-4 GGXXAC Final

Posted on October 30, 2010 by Maj

Several matchvids from this Guilty Gear XX Accent Core tournament were just uploaded to the a-cho u2b channel today. It was a 4-on-4 tournament called the “Let’s Take Down N-Otoko Festival.” Apparently everyone’s goal was to eliminate the Venom player who entered alone.

players: K (Eddie), Kou (Slayer), Shonen (Testament), Woshige (Millia) vs N-Otoko (Venom)

observations:
Thirteen minutes of runtime is way too much to talk about, but these matches (like all top-level GGXX videos) are fun to watch if you enjoy seeing totally unfair things happen to people. It’s got a few awesome comebacks too, at 0:40 and 6:05.

The Dr. Sub-Zero Show – Episode 1, Part 5

Posted on October 30, 2010 by Maj

Honestly, i can’t say i’m 100% comfortable with posting this here, but like the description says, “Dr. Sub-Zero wouldn’t be who he is if he didn’t steer this interview into adult terrain.” Anyway we’re already four parts in, so it would be a shame to stop now, right?

notes:
There’s some good material about applause sarcasm, background info on SoCal 3S legends Victoly and Gee-O, and even some insight on 5 Star’s various nicknames. If you’d rather skip past the questionable content, it starts at the 1:10 mark and ends at 4:10.

MvC2 Variable Atmosphere 2 by Magnetro

Posted on October 29, 2010 by Maj

Today turned out to be an incredibly slow day, so i’m going to use it as an excuse to spotlight a classic video that i happened to rewatch recently. As with its predecessor, this tool-assisted Marvel vs Capcom 2 exhibition shows highly situational interactions, with a fair number of elaborate combos mixed in. The editing is nice and clean, and the music fits perfectly.

highlights:
MvC2 Magneto offscreen air combo starter at 1:18, Dhalsim midscreen fun combo at 1:30, Spiral/Dr.Doom interplay at 2:17, Wolverine/Morrigan interplay at 3:55, Spiral deadbody combo at 4:32, Magneto multi-cross combo at 4:47, and armored Colossus flying around at the beginning of the last setup at 4:57

Whoever comes up with the best title gets to nominate two MatchVid of the Day candidates. As always, the rules are one entry per person and i’ll choose my favorite on Tuesday.

JBA Mariah sets up A1 Landenkuro Koge, Bast no Jiryoku, and B+A2 xx A1 Correction, then jumps forward with air Bast no Jiryoku while Midler whiffs c.A1 after performing her Motor Show super. The timing and spacing for this scene took quite a bit of time to develop.

In preparation for SoCal Regionals coming up next weekend, Zaid “RedRapper” Tabani has taken it upon himself to produce what is essentially a full-length documentary. SSF4 126-Hit Chun Li Combo Challenge by desk

Posted on October 28, 2010 by Maj

Here’s something you don’t see every day. A week ago, desk issued this combo challenge with a $50 bounty. Anyone who could replicate the exact Chun Li combo (containing 12 one frame links, 125 button inputs, 126 hits, 661 damage) would receive $50 in the e-mail.

Of course news spread through dozens of interwebs and even ended up on several major Japanese websites. With yesterday’s deadline passed, it seems nobody was able to answer the challenge. Continue reading →
