WakeUp SRK Interviews desk

Today’s guest on the Wakeup, Shoryuken podcast was none other than desk – everyone’s favorite combo maker / musician. Check it out!

Wakeup, Shoryuken E051 – Desk: Top Publishing

The podcast runs for roughly forty-eight minutes and covers a wide range of topics including both combovids and tournament play. It’s pretty cool to see a combo maker get this kind of exposure on such a popular and well-respected stage.

Capcom Fighting Jam [Logical Progression] by 538

Originally released back in 2005 as a “100,000 Hit Memorial” for the KYSG Movie Page, this reuploaded Capcom Fighting Evolution combovid is an absolute classic. It’s amazing to see a combo system utterly dismantled in this fashion, whether or not you like the game itself.

MvC3 Ryu Combos by Final Showdown

While everyone already considers Ryu a low-tier character in Marvel vs Capcom 3, that certainly doesn’t mean he can’t deal massive damage if given an opening. (Isn’t it amazing how Ryu has been in five Marvel games, yet never once made it into top tier?)

highlights:
MvC3 Ryu double-wavedash juggle at 1:30 of part one, Ryu vertical Shinkuu starter at 0:01 of part two, Ryu triple-super at 1:00 of part two, and Ryu double-ShinSho at 0:44 of part three

Background Music Muting Procedures

Background music – the eternal mortal enemy of combo video makers everywhere. It certainly has been the bane of my existence over the past four years. And what better way to treat my anguish than to give you all the opportunity to profit from it. See, that way it’s not for nothing.

Street Fighter
Problem: In the (MAME) arcade version, one of two sound channels handles sound effects while the other predominantly handles music. Unfortunately, some of the sound effects such as the impact noise and the kick whooshing sound come through the music channel. Therefore, muting the music channel leaves the sound effects sounding flat.
Solution: PS2/Xbox Capcom Classics Collection 2 includes a version of SF1 with an audio option menu which lets you adjust music and sound effects levels individually. It’s not available from the main menu before loading the game, so it’s easy to miss. You have to load SF1 and then press Select to bring up the Pause Menu. Access Audio Setup to take Music Volume all the way down while leaving SFX Volume alone.

MvC3 Ise’s Team Combo by isedelica

One of the coolest things about MvC3’s combo system being so flexible and open-ended is that there’s too much to absorb at first glance. Everyone’s forced to start off by picking characters almost blindly and trying to make the best of them. Dante/SuperSkrull/Tron seems to be isedelica’s team, and he’s certainly getting his money’s worth.

highlights:
MvC3 Dante air-to-ground madness at 0:44, Super Skrull OTG carnival at 1:43, and Tron corner everything-in-the-manual combo at 2:10
