MatchVid of the Day: Sirlin vs jchensor (SFA3)

Believe it or not, i bought an original B4 videotape directly from SRK way back in 2000-2001 (and later gave it away). One of the best matches on the tape was this unlikely early-round battle, and to this day it still remains my favorite jchensor match ever.

players: David Sirlin (X-Dhalsim) vs James “jchensor” Chen (A-Zangief)

observations:
Keep in mind, this was one of the first national tournaments ever held for SFA3. That’s why it still looks like an oldschool Street Fighter game instead of the insanely technical VC-fest that SFZ3 is today. Back then, Dhalsim was considered the undisputed best character in the game by a long shot, which makes jchensor’s eventual victory that much more impressive. Zangief spends the first 40 seconds of the match getting kicked in the head, simply working to get close. This match is the ultimate proof that patience and sticking to your gameplan pays off.

game: Street Fighter Alpha 3 (Arcade)

venue: B4 Street Fighter Championship – Winners’ Bracket 1st Round
