MatchVid of the Day: Daigo vs Ricky Ortiz (SSF4)

I had to get around to this sooner or later, right? The Super Street Fighter IV finals at Evo2k10 ended with a string of high-pressure matches, mainly due to Ricky’s character choice of Rufus.

players: Daigo Umehara (Ryu-U1) vs Ricky Ortiz (Rufus-U2)

observations:
The entire second round from 0:50 onward is amazing on Daigo’s part. Check out how he sets up that crossup air Hurricane Kick. You know that’s exactly what he was planning when took that small step backward at 0:56, and even before then when he started throwing fireballs. This is exactly why jumping is dangerous. Rufus’ air time gives Ryu the opportunity to set up the crossup. And then check out how quickly Daigo rebuilds meter after the super. His gameplan is just ridiculously fundamentally solid.

I loved this match(most of evo 2k10 for that matter) but damn, sessler had no idea what he was talking about for a while!

Yeah, you can’t expect much from someone who has never entered a Street Fighter tournament before. At least he was trying though. Hopefully he enjoyed the experience enough to do some research for next time.
