I'm here, I just don't have anything to say atm, still haven't touched KoF14.
Maybe Doopliss isn't kicking ass, but he's taking names.

So...you´re actually planing on playing XIV? Not the best KOF for combos, IMO, but far from the worst, and I think it´s pretty fun to play anyway. It has the "KOF feeling".
The forums, not only this topic, all of them, are more inactive than I´ve ever seen.

Well, SFV is a "deader" game than SFIV ever was when it comes to combos. Most of the activity came from SFIV CV makers. It also means that new talent has a really hard time to stand out.

I was planning on playing it for fun, I always liked KoF13 but felt it was too complicated for me to actually play properly. But I feel like I'm completely burned out on the genre right now. Bought KoF14 day 1, still haven't opened it.

So, it´s more or less the same with SFV and KOFXIV regarding combos: Both have less options than their predecessors. Didn´t know that about SFV, it looks like it has lots of combo options with those crazy v-trigger mechanics, but it seems I was wrong. I guess FADC added a lot for combo purposes. I guess both companies tried to put the focus on the competitive part. We combo-makers are a minority, after all. With KOF XIV, it feels like i´m going to end with it way sooner than I thought, but I´ll keep trying till I completelly run out of ideas.

The main issue with SFV is that they botched frame advantage and link combo possibilities, making anything not envisioned by the developers impossible. This severely lowers ground combo variety. SFIV had also had auto-generated hurtboxes during hitstun, resulting in a lot of character-specific stuff and longer range combo options, being able to hit their hands while their bodies were too far away for example. The fact that you can't use a super move and EX moves in the same combo lowers stylishness a lot as well, since most non-ex moves are unable to either start or continue juggle combos. VT-trigger cancelling is also carefully balanced so that you can't do stuff that's TOO cool/good. Ultimately they made it easier for the players, but it just sucked the soul out of the game completely imo.

Thanx for the detailed explanation, I didn´t know all that info. It´s been a quite productive chat this one
It seems both games are very similar regarding combos posibilities. In KOF XIV I feel that they did exacty the same, making that something not envisioned by the developers was not possible to do. EX special moves not being supercancelable and the limited juggle sistem where many special and ex special moves will not hit twice or will only hit partially if they hit more than once, makes you feel like you have seen everything for a char in 15 minutes.
It´s not exactly like this, and it´s not like this with all chars but, coming from KOF XIII, optiones seem very few.
I´ll squeeze the combo engine as much as I can, anyway.

I've been curious for the longest time: Why is his recovery on that lv.2 burst super thing so horribly slow?

Both his lvl1 and lvl3 "burst supe2" put Meitenkun to sleep once he´s on the ground till you do something (touch button, press any direction). As the super sends the oponent flying and it´s a hard nock down, the recovery is slow, but, while I don´t have frame data, I don´t think it´s punishable on hit at all if you hold a direction from the moment the super hits, so you nullify the sleeping.
