Whoa, i somehow happened to find this while looking up KoF95 combos on u2b:

ストリートファイター2X

It's NKI's Volume IV uploaded by some Japanese dude and it has 770,931 views! How does this happen without any of us even knowing?

Nobody like NKI to appease the Japanese audiences, huh? ;)

and seems it's been up for more than 3 years... :P

As for the 95 stuff, better check stuff from rock2no, IMO the best maker of 95 in the scene.

Sample.

Haha apparently someone asked "How to create a good combo video?" on sf4answers which somehow led to the entire response getting reposted on SRK. Anyway he kind of talks smack about one of Doopliss' SF4 videos:
sf4answers wrote:Lets use '"What just happened?" A Street Fighter IV combo video' by DaDoppen as an example (it's for vanilla, but it exemplifies my point):

Notice that the first three Cammy combos use the exact same startup sequence, j.HK -> cr.HP. If this is the case, why not just start with the cr.HP?
Someone should tell him that it's to show her c.HP connecting in a standard jump-in scenario and not some kind of meaty setup.

But it's not all bad. SRK's publishing form automatically turns the first embedded u2b video into the front page thumbnail, so this led to Doopliss' video being featured on the front page.

That explains why I got like 2000 views in one day. And yeah, it's my first major combo video, something's bound to be bashed upon :P Hopefully people can learn form my mistakes.
Maybe Doopliss isn't kicking ass, but he's taking names.

HD SSF 4 - Gouken Combos Resets and Mixups - RuLeZ ft. biffotasty

Haha looks like we have another Calcius Repton fan. I don't really get the video though. How is random dashpunch against tech roll a mixup?

Some of the dash-under stuff is nice, but i get the feeling that most of this footage is better visually than tactically. Giving up guaranteed damage for an demon flip throw doesn't seem worthwhile.

It's so you can bait them into blocking and punishing it

I think main main problem with it, is it's too long, it would have been better as a 2min video

Yeah i'm not a big fan of this whole "highlight compilation" craze. It was fun when it was new, but now it's getting out of hand. I still think it would be a good idea for top players to make one highlight reel for themselves so we have something to point to when we're referencing them - but that's about it.

For someone to take other people's gameplay footage and mash it up into weekly videos or whatever, i think that's a step in the wrong direction. And again, it goes back to our content distribution model being messed up. Someone is making money off all this, and it's never the players. Whenever that happens, it's only a matter of time until people start voicing their displeasure.

Or maybe i'm just bored of seeing the same combos over and over.

Hmm. Was it I who started it, or was LiangHuBBB doing it even before that? Because I didn't see this increase in highlight reels until after I had posted mine.

... omg it was Jeff Schaefer!!!

That Levelup trailer was pretty popular/notorious. And there's always been Evo trailers. I don't know if you can pinpoint an origin, but they definitely got popular once people started running out of new combos and strategies to record.

Anyway i don't have nearly as much of a problem with people posting highlight reels of themselves as i do with people using other players' matches without their consent. But whatever, i've had enough drama over this "copyright" issue, so i'm just staying out of the way this time.

And highlight reels aren't all boring ("Soul-crushing Taco Slap" ftw!) ... but they usually are.

I think LiangHuBBBs highligt reels are nice, but it annoys me how he takes footage from EVERYWHERE.

Yeah, he asked me permission before posting my stuff out there. I would assume he did the same for others. Idk, but I like them.

Somehow i doubt anyone bothers to ask the Japanese players for permission. In fact i'd be surprised if anyone asks for permission as a mandatory rule, instead of only asking people they already know.

"Coping with Frame Rate Limitations" by Dammit on SRK

Dang, i didn't know you wrote articles for SRK! Can you get me Mister Wizard's autograph??

edit: Also, jchensor and UltraDavid are in hella random trailers and montages nowadays, which i guess explains why they're too cool to post here anymore.

edit2: Oh ... I made myself sad :(

Aw, you guys don't watch Futurama? It's my favorite TV show.
Futurama - The Sting wrote:Leela: In my dream, Fry said he hid a gift for me in his locker. If it's true, then he must still exist in some form!
Professor Hubert Farnsworth: Of course he still exists. As a frozen corpse in outer space! Ho ho ho ho ho ho heh!
Professor Hubert Farnsworth: Oh ... I made myself sad.

Ahhh, OK. I actually quote the show fairly often but without knowing it at first; I have two friends who bounce lines back and forth and I end up adding it to my own conversations. Kind of like how your Cali ass is the reason why I say "dope." Thank god my brain is hardwired against the word "hella" 'cause it's too silly for me

Hella dope!

Haha yeah you should probably stay away from the word hella. I thought it was dumb too at first. Actually i still think it's dumb. But it's hella convenient! Believe me, it fills a void in your vocabulary that you didn't know you had.

Oh nice, thanks for the heads-up. Pretty interesting article, but i guess i never really needed a drawn-out storyline to become immersed in Street Fighter or to become interested in the characters. Capcom accomplished that just fine through visuals and gameplay.

For instance, Guile's personality is evident in his animations, his design, his stage background, and most importantly the way he plays. You could say the same about all of the original characters. In fact i think i kind of enjoyed finding out about their backstories through rumors and inferences. Isn't that how we learn about real fighters too? Most of the stories about Mike Tyson or Royce Gracie or Fedor are basically spread the same way.

I mean i actually really enjoyed the short anime film that was produced for Street Fighter IV, but i don't look for that kind of stuff in the game itself. If it's there, cool. If not, it doesn't seem strange at all.

I'm guessing one of the things they'll point to next is the fact that everyone has their own favorite character, so it's hard to unify all the backstories into one storyline...and they're probably not meant to be.
