I must be getting old. I can't understand why people are complaining about Viper and not some of the other characters or moves.Maj wrote:Yeah that move couldn't possibly look any worse. It's like they decided not to animate a hit spark at all and just went with blurring the whole screen until it was done animating. And you just know someone's gonna find a way to glitch it out and keep that dumb blur active forever.

Yeah I don't know why everyone has to get drunk 'cause Viper does Burning Kick
Re: Fighting Game News and Speculation
It's pretty bad dude. I think the implication is that her Burning Kick is so extremely burning that it covers the entire screen in heat blur. But that shit is ugleeee. I don't care if the lead designer's favorite movie was Backdraft and his favorite character was Kurt Russell who *spoilers* dies *spoilers* twice in a blaze of blurry and he wants to recreate that cinematic experience every time Viper lands a launcher.
That shit is whack. It needs to go. Take that shit out of the final build plzzz. Let it go bromigo. You'll always have your ugly trailer.

Re: Fighting Game News and Speculation
The blur effect is a glitch in the poorly encoded gamespot videos. It does NOT exist in the game.Complaints about it are in vain
Re: Fighting Game News and Speculation
Nah i don't drink. I hope that's true about it being an encoding glitch. Some of the effects in MvC3 are way over the top. I end up having to rewatch new supers like 5 times to figure out what they're doing. I still can't tell what Viper actually does during her lightning slam super.
Re: Fighting Game News and Speculation
Yeah, neither could I, I was hoping it was just due to the editing/fact that we're not doing it ourselves. Kind of like how SF4 looked a lot uglier until I showed up to the arcade..As for MvC3, those superfreezes and huge hitsparks don't help. The zoom-ins for SF4 Ultras don't even cut out as much of the action, and we're talking about a 3-on-3 fighting game...
Re: Fighting Game News and Speculation
A bit of a rumour, apparently Tokido told some Melbourne ppl that SSF4AE has been leaked onto the web, similar to BBCS. That could mean some automacro stuff would be possible... so far nobody I know has managed to find the game online tho, but there are some fake ones around (or it could be that people don't know how to run it).

They actually said Human Torch was removed because he consumed to much RAM.Now, the most obvious question:HOW MUCH FUCKING SHIT AND FLAMES AND SHIT AND FUCKING LASER BEAMZZ AND ROOOOOCKETS AND SPARKS AND FIREWORKS AND BLIPS AND SHIT could he possible have to consume to much RAM?
Oh, and Capcom, HOW ABOUT FUCKING REMOVING SOME OF THE FUCKING BLIPS AND SHITS rather than removing a WHOLE COMPLETE caracter?
"Yeah, we actually fully developed Urien for SSF4, but we didn't like that his cr.fierce was 8 frames of startup, so we removed him from the game." WHAT THE FUCK?!
Sorry for NSFW languange, but it really bogles my mind HOW IN THE NAME OF FUCK you can remove a character from the game because he is too flashy Especially when MVC3 currently has like what ,25 announced characters?, when people expected a lot more, coming from the 52(i think?) characters of MVC2.
Needless to say, i'm still super hype for it, and may drop SSF4 compeltely when this comes out, because it doesn't seem faire to lose because of the execution barrier. You like do a complicate setup, and when you get it and it's the time to do the decisive damage, OOOOPPPSSS, missed link by one frame, get reveral ultra'ed, lose, cry, kill yourself.I like the fact that MVC doesn't rely on ONE FRAME links hit confirms, which are totally not worth it.MVC3 doesn't have reversals, right?

I feel sad knowing that I feel nothing for MvC3. I'm not excited about it at all and don't think I'll even purchase it. I do however, feel very excited about Mortal Kombat 9.

Re: Fighting Game News and Speculation
I don't know where Marvel gets this reputation for having easy execution. We don't even have terminology for all the insane shit that Marvel players have to do. Instant airdashing, pushblocking out of Sentinel HSF loops, keeping Spiral/Strider traps airtight, looping Magneto/Storm/IronMan infinites ten times in a row, canceling Cable's alpha counter into AHVB as low to the ground as possible without committing suicide - all of these things take timing.
Also i found this MvC3 food truck in Burbank and it wasn't all that special. I got there only 10 minutes before 2pm when they were supposed to leave, but there was literally nobody around. Just seemed like a regular food truck with an MvC3 paint job. They weren't giving away any "MvC3 swag" like it said on SRK either. The taco i tried was pretty good though.

Re: Fighting Game News and Speculation
I don't mean this to sound insulting, but I think a lot of people find MvC1 and 2 to be "easy" because they're not getting real competition. You can easily land a double-digit combo in most of the VS.-series games and feel totally awesome doing it - usually while in the air, finishing with a super. It's the chaining, the "pursuit" (jump to start air combo after launcher), then air chaining, super, etc, that make people think it's easy. When I first sat down to play one of the MvCs, I thought the dude beating me was a pro, landing so many hits, confusing me so quickly...it wasn't until later that I discovered just how fast those games are. Even the competitive scene around me is chump change compared to what I know of as high-level Marvel play (from the stuff Magnetro has explained to me, since I still can't entirely understand a good match).

Re: Fighting Game News and Speculation
What i meant is that is a type of execution that rellies less on stupid links which make no sense damage wise, and when you are to punish, you are not afraid A,B,C, special, super will not come out.I don't mean intense juggles or infinites, i mean getting the damage in after you hit confirmed something, and that, i'd say it's not that hard.
When you hit 2 cr.jabs with dee jay , you've hitconfirmed for yourself that you have hit them, and can do whatever you want, but what can you actually do?You'll do cr.mp into dread kicks, because that kinds the only option lol. Will you hit it?No, because the link is mad hard for what reward it gives. Will you get reversal Dp'ed trying it?Probably.
Now in marvel, if you do a chain series and you hitconfirm the first 2 attacks, there no way youl'll miss the cancel on ,say, another normal, then, special, and/or super.
Combos that are very hard on execution or hard to aplly pressure strings yes there are, but that not was i referring to.

Re: Fighting Game News and Speculation
I guess after you get the basics and get used to the insane speed of the game and all, everything could come up easy. But i don't think it's like newbie friendly (unless you just mash weaks mids and strongs while in the air, lol). Execution wise it's slightly easier than some of other fighting games (a Super performed with a single motion and 3 buttons versus a double motion or complex motion and one, two or three buttons), but certainly the timing in the versus series it's precise, fast and has tons of different properties away from a more standard fighting game.
I always found hard to play the VS series, too technical and too hardcore. I know bit of the engine due of the videos, the tutorials, explanations and bit of personal playing... but i can't say i find it easy to play.

Re: Fighting Game News and Speculation
mmm, ok, if you're talking about links specifically, then I can understand; 3s is not very link-heavy and I appreciate that; however, some of the parry-into-punish type stuff is more advanced and kinda beyond me. i think my execution is bad in general so I'll always have that problem...but you also need to remember to play to your opponent - if you're afraid of mashed reversals, bait them out and punish with simple combos. seriously, i watch japanese third strike matches and see, let's say, Akuma gets a knockdown on Ryu: on wakeup, he stuffs whatever Ryu was going to do with a close fierce. when I play third strike, that plan is beyond stupid to me; my opponent will wake up parry, wake up throw, wake up DP, etc...
...and I play Zangief when I play SFIV; it's very fun to mash 360/720 when the opponent is doing a series of links - I'm waiting for them to screw up so I can land huge damage. if I played people who were either solid enough to land the full combo, or knew how to do safe block/poke strings then I'd probably be less likely to mash out a reversal...so you have to remember who you're up against when you're online. i'd recommend keeping the advanced combos for high-level matches, or learn safer link combos...either one until you know you're solid enough to nail the hard combos 9/10 times.
slightly back on topic, it's a weird idea to me that there's most likely not going to be a Zangief in MvC3. He was in MvC2, MvC1, MSF...

Re: Fighting Game News and Speculation
Whoa this place is really active lately haha.
I get what smileymike is saying. A lot of SSF4 is about frame traps (imo), so you can't really do anything except backdash, fa, jump, or reversal. Often reversals are the best option because there's a 4f window, they're safe with FADC, and they lead into ultras for big damage. Pressing buttons will get you counter hit, so against some players you have to just DP at the right time, and they made it easy. 3S doesn't really have amazing blockstrings either because of parry (and no autoguard), and I guess blazblue gives you a million ways to deal with blockstrings that can lead into massive damage... He's probably just wanting to play something different, but I think everything has it's problems and they only seem to "disappear" at the top top level. Like when you see SSF4 players option selecting everything and punishing everything properly, it's a pretty freaking awesome game. I just don't like to play it with my skills for more than a couple of hours =P. I think MvC3 will have a lot of bullshit as well, but it only really matters how it's played at the top level, to figure out whether it's actually "good" or not. I think SSF4 is pretty good, but yeah I'm after something different at this point as well so I'm kinda hyped for marvel.
edit: also the rest of the mvc3 characters are pretty much 99.99% confirmed, Mike Hagger, Hsien Ko, Phoenix/Jean Grey, Sentinel, Taskmaster, Akuma and Galactus.

1: Has another Darkstalker character in it, female no less.
2: Has a clone in it (Akuma).
As they said no clones, no more darkstalker characters. However, I wouldn't mind it if it's true, I've wanted Jean Grey in a vs game for quite some time, I think she's been kind off bullied out.

Re: Fighting Game News and Speculation
I just hope from that list that Sentinel makes the cut, and Mike Hagar, for the required gief clone i nevery game.Who the fuck is Hsien Ko?Is she the blue weird one from gem fighter? No,please.
Re: Fighting Game News and Speculation
Jean Grey is dead, has been dead for five years, and isn't coming back anytime soon. Phoenix would be a little more likely but I'd say the chances are close to 0.
Re: Fighting Game News and Speculation
originally from Darkstalkers, but yes.Smileymike101 wrote:Who the fuck is Hsien Ko?Is she the blue weird one from gem fighter?
Re: Fighting Game News and Speculation
What happened was someone on gaf posted the list and said shuma and jill would be dlc, before it was confirmed. That's pretty specific. They also got Storm and Viper, so they've basically been right with the last 4 characters announced, and some really specific info. It's enough for me to think it's legit.
Re: Fighting Game News and Speculation
Meh, as if death really mattered in a video game. Vice & Mature died since 96, used them in dreammatches in kof 98, 2002, NW and officially "raised from the grave" in XIII. Same goes for Charlie/Nash: he's supposed to be death since SFZ1, but kept him alive until Z3... and still used him in the VS series too.error1 wrote:Jean Grey is dead, has been dead for five years, and isn't coming back anytime soon. Considering the VS series non-cannon dreammatches, i'm sure they'd find a way to put her if they want to.
Re: Fighting Game News and Speculation
don't get my wrong, Phoenix's main power is resurrection, dieing is kind of her thing, she has died well over a dozen times. I just don't think Marvel will let them use a character who is not currently being published. That's why Sentinel ( or at least the cota sentinel who is only loosely based on the sentinels from the comics ) seems unlikely, but I could see Nimrod type Sentinel
