MatchVid of the Day: Toki no Tobira vs Kitamura (SFA2)

It’s pretty rare to find quality Street Fighter Alpha 2 matches, and even harder to find any featuring Birdie – one of the concensus worst characters in the game – faring well.

players: Toki no Tobira (Birdie) vs Kitamura (Sagat)

observations:
There’s a crazy advanced Sagat anti-air Custom Combo at 0:19 that works out to be something like s.MP xx whiff Tiger Knee, HP Tiger Blow (two hits). It just looks odd to have the Tiger Knee completely whiff like that and then see the Tiger Uppercut connect. The rest of the match is entertaining too. I like how Sagat looks clearly terrified of throwing a fireball from 2:00 onward, particularly at 2:01 and 2:10.

why didn’t he just do a tiger uppercut at :19, I’m pretty sure a mp, tu would have done more damage and wouldn’t have used a meter

  2. Maj says:

I believe he was expecting the Tiger Knee to connect. Looks like it misses by pixels.

  3. Bob Sagat says:

Man, too bad Birdie’s considered the worst. They had a couple of nice ideas for this character. That fullscreen throw super was highly effective in this match.

A2 is my favorite Street Fighter.. too bad Mikado stopped posting A2 vids.

i recommend this channel with high level replays from GGPO: http://www.youtube.com/user/Unlimited2fight#g/u

there’s this guy “thegreenplug” using Birdie in a very special way (lots of safe TAPs, pokes, consistently doing Final Bull Horn CC which deals insane damage). here’s one of my favorite rounds of him against a beastly Japanese Guy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aadtUrfanic#t=1m20s
