Enthusiasm vs Experience on Sonic Hurricane

This week’s strategy article on Sonic Hurricane discusses the constant clash between fighting game newcomers and veterans, with regard to their relative advantages. Of course it’s tough to overcome experience, but not impossible. Here’s the link along with a brief quote:

Enthusiasm vs Experience on Sonic Hurricane

There’s a number of obvious reasons behind their immediate and continued success. They’ve gone up against just about every play style in existence. They’ve learned to use more characters than you’ve fought against. They’ve entered more tournaments than you’ve seen. Suffice it to say, experience is a major advantage.

However, if you’re a relative newcomer to the fighting game tournament scene, you shouldn’t worry about that gap too much. That’ll be there no matter what competitive arena you walk into. The people who have been around for a long time will always have the benefit of experience, but your motivation and your enthusiasm for the game can trump that.

MatchVid of the Day: Magical vs Shinya (SFA3)

It turns out the players are named Magical and Shinya, and this is an early Street Fighter Alpha 3 match from a 2-on-2 ranking battle. Thanks to Buttermaker for solving the mystery. According to him, “Magical teamed up with Masa (Akuma) and Shinya with Eipachi (Cody).”

players: Magical (V-Sakura) vs Shinya (A-Guy)

observations:
There are two things you can learn from this V-Sakura: how to press a guard meter advantage and how to mount a last-second comeback. There’s one thing you can learn from this A-Guy: don’t use Alpha Counters against Sakura! Both players actually do a good job of demonstrating their matchup advantages, but Guy’s inability to close out the second round seals the match for him. He was probably trying to save his meter for the third round, but that’s a risky gamble when it doesn’t pay off.

Thanks to the hard efforts of guest Ty “ReNiC” Mitchell who has taken on the role of editing the remainder of the show, we have another segment to watch today! Fair warning: As with prior episodes, there’s some relatively harmless profanity in this video.

notes:

Listen to first-hand accounts of playing Third Strike in Japan. And lots more other outrageous questions you expect from the one and only Dogface Sh … Dr. Sub-Zero Show!

MatchVid of the Day: Jester vs Sensei (SFEX3)

ShinjiGohan has been uploading all kinds of Street Fighter EX content lately, and i thought this match was pretty funny. There seems to be some confusion about who’s actually playing the match, but it’s either Jester, Sensei, or Gen.

players: Jester (Garuda/Dhalsim) vs Sensei (Shadow/Garuda)

observations:
If you’ve ever wondered why Garuda is considered top tier in SFEX3, this video is all the proof you need. That last Critical Parade combo tallies over 100 hits and instantly kills both characters! And it doesn’t even cost full meter. Not to mention, Garuda chips off over 5% block damage any time he makes contact.

KoFXIII Character Combo Videos (09.12 – 10.07)

Here’s the second set of King of Fighters XIII individual character combo videos uploaded by SNK’s Hong Kong branch in anticipation of the game’s console release.

notes:
Benimaru, Daimon, Kyo, K’, Kula, and Maxima comprise the second batch. This time around, Maxima is shown to have a 100% damage combo, with Daimon, Kyo, and K’ all coming very close with over 90% damage. K’ in particular looks very stylish, and Maxima’s escalating progression of crazy excessive weaponry is entertaining to say the least.

Weekly Screenshot: Sistine Tackle

Whoever comes up with the best title picks the game highlighted in the next few screenshots. As always, the rules are one entry per person and i’ll choose my favorite on Tuesday.

JBA Jotaro’s stand-active j.A2 mirrors Dio’s j.A2 as his stand whiffs A1 Murdeeeeer! below. Setting up the spacing for this scene wasn’t trivial at all. It required a Tandem Attack by Dio, involving a whole bunch of whiffed moves to buy time for both characters to assume positions.
