Obligatory feedback thread.

Feel free to leave comments and take a number. Every day i'll deal with one new request by writing it down in a txt file, burning it onto a CDR, and submitting it to the Los Angeles Department of Public Works, care of the Bureau of Sanitation/Recycling.

The mod should stop doing comedy.

Everything else is fine. I hope I get feedback for my clips.

How should the site description (forum caption) read? The first one was "fighting game combos, glitches, and advanced tactics" but i didn't like it because it was too general. At some point, people on SRK are going to find out about this place, so i want it to be immediately apparent that it's a private forum for combo/glitch/tutorial video makers only.

Essentially, i want to make it clear that registration isn't open to random people who have no interest in making videos. You know, i don't want people trying to sign up because it seems like the next cool elite club to try to be a part of. Anyone who does that isn't going to have anything to contribute, nor are they going to get anything out of this forum that they couldn't get from SRK. I don't want to make anyone feel unfairly left out, so i want to make the rules crystal clear.

The current caption says "combo video making community" which is definately blunt/straightforward, but it's also ghetto. Does anyone have any suggestions that get the point across more elegantly?

Yeah, I agree, it's fine the way it is right now. *shrug* Or if you wanna keep this forum a complete secret you can always just make it invisible unless you're logged in or something like http://www.leet.com or something.

Haha, it's just that "combo video making community" looks so ghetto. It's missing a hyphen, but i can't decide where to put it. I think "combo-video-making community" would look even more ghetto, though it might be more grammatically correct.

And no, i don't want to make the forum completely secret. There's still a lot of general info here on videomaking that could help people get started. Unless you have some experience making videos or you have seen a friend do it, the whole process seems completely foreign. In reality, setting up capturing equipment is quite a bit less scary than it sounds and the same is true for editing. It'd be nice to have people read some of the discussion here, get inspired to record some of their ideas, and kinda make their way into our little club. If we keep everything secret, then there's less of a chance of that happening.

I really don't mind what title you give this forum, but as a person that doesn't like things that are ordinary, I propose "Comboratorium."

I haven't tried, but is attaching images allowed? I think that'll make showing examples and screenshots easier.

I don't really have any complaints yet.

I'm dying without a thread subscription feature. :(

I've become totally and thoroughly dependent on the subscription function on SRK. Eeep!

Actually there's a lot of image-related stuff that i have disabled, for now. You can post images using the "img" tag but i don't think you can attach them to posts. Also, avatars and images in signatures are disabled because i think avatars look tacky and sig images are extremely tacky. But that's just my personal preference.

If anyone really misses having avs, then go ahead and make a poll thread to get everyone's opinion. If the majority of the active posters want anything, i'm down to make the changes. My vote only counts once.

Under the "new topic" and "post reply" buttons, there should be a "Watch this topic for replies" link. I haven't tried it out but maybe that's similar to what you're looking for.

I'll give it a try. I just noticed the "View posts since last visit" - "View your posts" - "View unanswered posts", buttons. That should work just fine. :B

How the hell did you get past security?? Starting today, you have three weeks to make a combo video.

Goddammit, people. This is why i keep telling everyone to lock the trunk of the stealth boat.

If I made a combo video the world would implode from awesomeness and beauty, and the beauty of its awesomeness. It would be the Beverly Hills Cop of combo videos.

Just because of that, you now have to make a Combo Video using Axel F as the background music.

Right after that we can add it to the list of banned combo video music.

I'll stop using Nightwish for final videos, haha.

Speaking of Axel Foley, i've been watching all of the old Rocky movies lately and happened to see this craziness about Sylvester Stallone ...
IMDb wrote:Was originally slated to play Detective Axel Foley in Beverly Hills Cop (1984). The role went to Eddie Murphy instead.

Turned down the role of John McClane in Die Hard (1988). The part went to Bruce Willis instead.
I absolutely can not imagine Beverly Hills Cop with anyone other than Eddie Murphy.

That'll be the name for the third subforum (temporarily - for about a week). Would have done sooner but i wanted to get the House / Boat / Houseboat thing out of the way.

Nah, i don't think so. I've been changing it once a week so far and it's had 15 different names already. I'll keep going until i forget or run out of words or something. The most fitting name for it would simply be "Combo Video Forum" but that's kinda boring so i've avoided making anything permanent.

Looks like round two of the pornbot invasion has begun. I'll go through the list every day or two, deleting all new spam accounts. Once it gets especially annoying, i'll look into a more permanent solution. In the meantime, try to pretend they never existed. They'll never be able to post cuz all new accounts start out inactive by default.

All good things on the internet are subject to death by spam.

Did some research and found a few mods that could solve this problem, but it also turns out that the official release of phpBB3 is right around the corner. That version will have a number of built-in features to combat the spambot problem. Either way, even if it doesn't solve the problem completely, i'd still prefer to hold off on installing any mods until after the upgrade to phpBB3.

So one way or another, this minor annoyance will be gone soon. For whatever reason, this forum is starting to show up in search engine results, which is probably what's leading all these bots here.

Wow, i'm totally impressed by Xenozip's contribution to the Character Select Screens archive. Got a couple questions about some of them though.

First off, there's no way to pick Gill in 3S? The reason i didn't post a 3S screenshot is cuz i haven't unlocked him.

Doesn't Last Blade 2 have some scary boss character too? What emulator did you use to get such a giant "state saved" message?

Nice job picking Akuma in COTA. I got pretty good with Silver Samurai from screwing up that code so many times.

Haha, busted. Yeah I actually just stole that shot from ZweiFuss' page.

But, I updated it to include Gill.
Maj wrote:Doesn't Last Blade 2 have some scary boss character too?
Of course, this is SNK we're talking about. In LB2 it's Kouryu. However, for some reason I can't pick him even with the codes I found online. I probably have to beat the game a few times on hard or something stupid like that. But in the meantime I added a picture of him I stole from some place I googled.

Which reminds me. There's actually an unselectable/unplayable boss character in Vampire Savior: Oboro Bishamon. Added.

Also added SS5S and AHs.

Hahahaha I'm stupid, I actually took the time to make a fake char-select screen for IaMP with icons (added).

Hmmmm there's also this which brings me to this.

Actually i'm only interested in the legitimately playable characters, because we should implicitly encourage people to avoid cheating/hacking. Besides, even if a game has like 40 characters, you never forget the bullshit bosses whom you aren't allowed to pick. Most people aren't willing to go through the trouble of attempting combos against CPU bosses anyway.

Apparently Last Blade 2 has four secret characters, though Hagure Hitogata is essentially a mirror match code while Naoe Kotetsu is nothing more than Shigen with an alternate intro.

Haha, nice job with the custom IaMP character select.

But that code for Kouryu is supposed to work, but I couldn't get it to work for the life of me. You probably have to unlock something in order to get the code to start working, or something ridiculous like that.

Regarding the Shigen code, that's pretty much the same as Dark Gallon (Dark Talbain) in Vampire Savior. Basically the only differences is a new intro pose and new flickery palette swaps.

However, I added Oboro Bishamon because there were other differences between the two. From what I remember they had different special moves, at least.

In order to pick Kagami in LB1 and Kouryu in LB2, you have to play the "Console" version of the game as opposed to "Arcade" version. The option is available in Kawaks under the Game -> NeoGeo settings menu. Dunno how to make it work in FinalBurnAlpha or MAME though.

And i guess Oboro Bishamon can stay. For future reference, i wouldn't worry about CPU-only characters.
