Ghetto Combo Video Discussion

Post by Maj »

Someone posted a link to this Street Figther 3rd Strike Men video on SRK. It's five and a half minutes of random shit getting parried, then countered with even more random shit. I don't even know what the hell the name of the video is supposed to mean. Of course, there's no blocking whatsoever in the video, but true champions don't need to prove that they're parrying manually. The editing makes me laugh too, but that Ken Shinryuken segment is totally action-packed.

That video reminded me of another helluva ghetto video which got posted on that website quite some time ago. Someone took two of my CvS2 Guile combovids and made this Ode to Guile monstrosity. At the end, it says "Combos Done By: Various Combo Tiers" and i don't get mentioned at all, but at least my website got thanked, haha. The funniest thing is that almost every time he does those crazy skip forward edits, he completely bypasses the interesting part of the combo. The music totally fits too ... dot dot dot.

Not hating on the hosting website. They have some really good match vids. I'm not even hating on these two vids, cuz they're entertaining if nothing else.

Yeah, that video was really weird. I didn't like the music =/.

Maybe he accidentally made it lol. There were some funny parts mostly, just confusing and it was pretty annoying that he repeated his superflashes over and over(ies).

You would think by now, people would stop using movie maker 2 to edit.

That was one of the most horrible things I think I've ever seen. I can't believe they implemented Tony Jaa camera, too!! Activate a Super and watch it activate FIVE TIMES, sometimes UPSIDE DOWN!!!

Ok so this isn't a combo video but it's definately ghetto. It's a Mugen Guile vs Guile match against the CPU or something, with what seems to be infinite meter even though one of them keeps trying to charge up. Can't really blame the video maker because it's not only impossible to make a non-ghetto Mugen video, but also illegal and unethical.

Lemme point out the highlights for you guys. At 0:21, green Guile does a bootleg Hurricane Kick made from his F+MK hopkick and j.HK animations. At 0:31, black Guile does a crazy combo involving a Flash Kick, a bootleg Hurricane Kick, and like 50 Sonic Hurricane supers where they tried to animate an actual hurricane. Somehow green Guile still wins that round.

At 1:27, green Guile does a crazy bootleg Jaguar Kick made from a backwards Flash Kick sprite. It actually looks kinda tight. At 1:31, green Guile does an SPD! It's just his air throw animation spinning around. He wins that round too, winning the match.

At 2:32, black Guile wins the first round and does Akuma's win animation! It's so crazy that the game can't handle it and he flickers in and out of existence. Some more stuff happens but nothing can top this so i'm gonna stop now.

People keep posting my old videos on youtube. Someone posted this Mugen thing as a video response to one of my Guile videos, so i took a look. Honestly, there are some really cool ideas in Mugen character builds. Too bad they are all executed so poorly. Supers not comboing right and blockstun being nonexistent and on and on.

I found a really, really bad Zangief tutorial. It's not a combo video, but it still counts, right?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E7PReb2Buwg

At first I thought it was going to be pretty cool. I really liked the fact that it was in two languages. But don't worry, I was swiftly disappointed.

Man that part where he says that only kick SPD works in tick setups makes me laugh nonstop. "TrustMe!!"

The whole notion of one isolated kid in some random country finding ways to make Zangief effective against the SNES CPU is nothing if not charming. Spelling "beginner" three different ways only adds to that. After all, isn't that what footsies are all about? This guy is playing mindgames against the dictionary.

He has another tutorial on Birdie where he describes his grab super motion as "double middle moon command" - how cool is that?

Wow, I totally missed the Birdie tutorial. I think I was too afraid of what I would find lurking under "more from this user."

Found another not-a-combo-video to post here - an Akuma vs Smoke flash video by TheKasinO. It's your typical crazy exaggerated Marvelesque battle. Not bad for a first video. It has some song from the Matrix as a soundtrack, but it has no sound effects from the games. The best part is the credits at the end, where he says "i had some audio Problems so i said fuck it." That guy is my new hero. I'm also having some audio problems right now, so i'm going to say fuck it too.

Bahahaha, that video looked like two scrubs turned on auto-parry and autofire in the system directions menu, and then made a video.

Hahahahahaha, comedy.

Really ghetto. Reasons why:

- 5 seconds of dead space at beginning.
- Random sound sample from Melty Blood that has nothing to do with anything.
- Plain text title screen lasts like 5-6 seconds.
- Character title, character is just standing there taunting. Woooooo.
- Generic introduction from the in-game title screen cmv that takes up almost a full minute. It's from in-game, it's the damn intro sequence.
- The text is fugly, the video quality is fugly and kills the fugly text even more
- No in-game audio.
- No actual in-game content till 1:00
- First combo is punch-kick-kick-super-super-super-super-super-taunt, wtf
- Following combo is the same combo, but with one super instead of five, wtf.
- Combo at 1:29 is basically super-boost-super-boost-super-boost-super. Boost lets you cancel anything into anything, so it's like a Guilty Gear combo that was super-RC-super-RC-super-RC-super (RC = RomanCancel). Absolutely retarded.
- They use the character's extremely long image-super first at 2:15, then again at 2:46, and then again for no reason at all at 4:11, wtf
- Combo at 2:29 is once again super-boost-super-boost-super-boost-super-boost-super-boost. That's right, they ended it with a boost into nothing. That's like ending a GuiltyGear combo with a RomanCancel into nothing.
- They put more credits in the middle of the freaking video. Extremely long credits sequence with more generic in-game artwork that gives credit to the editing software and capturing software.. holy bloody hell what kind of crack are they smoking.
- But wait, more combos after the credits...
- Combo at 3:22 is the same exact combo as the one at 2:29 (super-boost-super-boost-super-boost-super), except it's done in the corner instead of midscreen and they end it with a kick.
- Combo at 3:50 is almost the exact same combo as the one at 1:59, just with a different OTG and ender.

Hurrrrrr :B

Hrrrmmm. It'd be interesting to know if those guys benchmarked a bunch of kof videos and tried their best to copy the style. It struck me that way when I watched the first minute and a half. Name of the guy who did the combo at the bottom, taunt at the end, dumb combos, random things that shouldn't be there, etc..

Beats me. I do know one thing though, pretty much every BBB video on youtube right now except for Ikusat's is pretty bad.

And all except for two, D'Nyc3's and Ikusat's, are actually worse than the one I linked to.

The game is pretty broken, but these crappy video artists are giving the game a really bad image with these shitty video productions.

The cammy thing by sealhunta on http://www.zachd.com/mvc2 is wayy too basic even for a basics video. Ugh, + the camera was wrong the whole time. asdfhjkl; and it was the same reset over and over.

Its one of those videos that feel like they're 9min of CvS2

Let's go through the positives first:
+ He didn't taunt before or after each combo
...

I think I puked in my mouth a little. I misread Mag's statement above, and I figured it was a 9 minute video based on the size(100 megs!?). I also didn't pay attention to the time counter. Same combo over and over again for the first half of the video. Then you see the same reset over and over again, into the same combo over and over again. Then there's some random Doom and Storm in there for the hell of it. And as if that wasn't enough, the song in the background is also a 8 second clip, looped over and over again.

Think I'm using the phrase "over and over" too much? Watch the video.

Slowest 3:44 of my life.

This kid Bplus put together an SFTM introduction video and posted it on SRK. I wouldn't have even seen it if jchensor hadn't mentioned it to me. Now for what it is, it's actually pretty good. Personally i thought 17 minutes was about 13 minutes too long, but then again none of it was new to me. I'm sure that anyone unfamiliar with SFTM will find it more interesting. Still, the video barely scratched the surface of the depth of the game. Believe me, i've got some crazy Van Guile stuff in store for you guys.

Most unforgivable is the fact the video weighs in at 384mb because it's freaking 1280x720 resolution. He mentioned that it was kind of a rough draft, so there's still hope that he'll cut that down to 320x240 or something. The editing was kinda alright but not great, which simply isn't good enough when coupled with tame content and 17 minute runtime.

Anyway i'm posting about it in case anyone is interested, cuz it's definitely worth a watch if you are curious about SFTM. But i would be lying if i said it wasn't ghetto.

yeah I downloaded that and 2 minutes in I wished I hadn't. Honestly I think It could have had the same content but been at least 10mins shorter. How many times do I have to watch akuma's stupid infinite? and the file size was ridiculous. One of the few times I've been actually annoyed after downloading a SF video. I avoided posting in the thread 'cos I didn't want to say anything bad about it, as he clearly spent hella time getting the footage. But damn, I didn't like it. Mainly because of the insane file size. I hadn't waited so long to watch a vid since I used to DL meikyousisui stuff on my 56k. If I just had to click a youtube link it would have went down much better with me.

It didn't even fit on my laptop screen. That got annoying quick. With this kind of thing, it's the editing that either makes or breaks it. Every time he used one of those ABC storyboards, it felt like he was stealing minutes out of my life. If those had gone fast enough to where you had to kinda struggle to read them, then they wouldn't feel like such a waste of time. Cuz i mean, their only purpose is cosmetic so why do they take up so much time? Then there's the unfocused footage, which contained way too much idling between semi-related demonstrations.

It's not a bad idea and i'm glad he actually managed to finish/release it, so i kinda feel bad about talking negatively about it. But there's no escaping the fact that lots of things could have been done to make this video less of a chore to watch.

Wow, it was up since July 12 too. Bad timing I suppose.

It was... lemme find the quote from Xeno:
<Xenozip> invalid combos, sub-par combos, sub-par setups, retarded loops, filters out the fucking ass, random character art that has nothing to do with the characters on screen, ayumi's evolution complete with subtitles IN ROMANJI

Like, it basically took stuff from every game in existance, and showed really, really bad combos for all of them. Not enough?

Ok, now half of the combos are invalid while still managing to be very poor. Still not enough?

Three fucking minute intro, where they're showing a shitty clip in the background with some art(the editing is nice... if they cut it down to 10%). And the whole time, there's this really really strong hazy glare filter running on it so you can never actually make out the game. That's fine I guess...

BUT ITS LIKE THAT FOR THE WHOLE MOVIE.

Like, TS's movie doesn't even hold a candle to this one. This one was so badly made I seriously barfed a little in my mouth and got a headache from watching it. Editing overdose, bad combos, Evolution... I'm really not sure how to make it worse.

It also had clips of some 10-20 second supers performed in some 3D game that were basically auto-combos. Which to me is the equivalent of showing MvC2 Spiral [grab super]x1. No setup, no finisher, just the auto-combo. And some of the games were running at slower speeds than standard (like game speed set to 1 instead of 2), but the combo didn't require it in order for it to be valid.

Screen flips.

But, it blows my damn mind that they put character artwork on the screen that was totally unrelated to anything in any part of the video.

*groan* um. http://combovideos.com/

the morrigan/chun-li show...I get it's not a traditional combovideo but I just thought the editing was really annoying. The constantly changing BG's + the HyperComboCrossOver thing was hard to watch.

eh, i guess you can't really call it full-blown-megamandan-ghetto. It just felt really drawn out, and a lot of the situations in the video were really alike.

Yeah? I liked that video. I mean, there were some dumb things. For example there was no point to making the video so big if they were going to leave so much empty room around every clip. Seems like they did it just to have some extra editing space for anime clips and credits, but i don't see why they couldn't have just made those smaller. Nobody cares about seeing all the pixels in ShadowChun's ending.

But i did like a lot of the combos and i didn't think the editing got in the way too much. That one Morrigan combo was really cool, where they were using Chun's Lightning Legs as interrupt repeatedly. Also i liked the combos using Charlie's assist where Chun used air super to cover distance.

When i first saw the trailer i thought it was a clever idea to use Morrigan and Chun cuz their initials are MvC - even though they are both Capcom characters so it doesn't fully work. But given the fact that neither of 'em are the most exciting combo characters in the Marvel engine, i kept my expectations low and i thought it turned out great. Not as cool as some of the Morrigan stuff that Vega Omega came up with but still cool.
