I actually did rewatch some of Doopliss videos when compiling this list.
This was the best of the bunch but that Theme of She-Hulk was really good too.
I really like that kof95 video, it should definitely be on the list
I don't think there is any thing wrong with it being SF4-centric because there where a lot of good sf4 videos
they can't all be in the list unless I want to chicken out

I guess you also looked at editing too, right? Because if there's something I just can't do it's cool special effects.

Well, it's your list so it's totally your call, but i personally would not be able to make a best-of-year list without including that Dhalsim video somewhere.
And leaving out a KYSG 3S video is blasphemy at its blasphemest. But the more i think about it, the more stuff comes to mind. What about
Gen's Ninja Monsters pack? He made something from nothing. Or
majijam's KoF2k2UM death combos? Those vids are creative as fuck.
Also the Tekken people are gonna be pissed at us for not knowing shit about Tekken.

This is why I'd never do something like this, someone will always get offended in some way.

I like the idea someone mentioned about a poll earlier. Maybe start off with 20 or 30 videos? Guc11's Tekken videos are awesome and I don't know anything about Tekken btw.

hmmm... 2010 started with real awesome CMV's then went a bit slow in the last months. Hard to get the best CMV's public without getting someone offended.

lol are you kidding, I couldn't care less about editing, it can help when done well, but the best editing is hardly noticeable.
I thought your videos where too long and repetitive. They all have moments of brilliance but they fail to be memorable because of how dense they are. I couldn't look at any one combo and tell you it shouldn't be in there, but I think they would have been better released in parts.
That said, you should be ahead of "Breaking the Rules of SF4: Smileymike101", but that video surprised me because it's the only time I've been impressed by a camera video
I don't mind hurting anybodies feelings, I'm certainly going to make it clear I really like watching my own videos.
I don't like the idea of a public poll, I think a better Idea would be each of the "staff" of combovideo pick a few videos and talk about why there great.

Well, i'm not particularly interested in publishing a list myself; at least not this year. But you can do it if you want - as long as your name is in the title of the post so people know who to blame, haha.
Btw if i was gonna do something like this and i knew that my preferences were heavily biased toward one game, what i would do (besides openly admitting the bias) is try to keep the "Top 10" list objective, and then have an "Honorable Mentions" segment where i just list all the (CvS2) crap i like without worrying about equal representation.
And you can leave out whoever you want, but this explanation doesn't make any sense:
error1 wrote:I thought your videos where too long and repetitive. They all have moments of brilliance but they fail to be memorable because of how dense they are. I couldn't look at any one combo and tell you it shouldn't be in there, but I think they would have been better released in parts.
"Too much stuff" isn't a valid complaint if you can't think of any specific combos that shouldn't be there. I'm not saying Doopliss' videos are flawless, but you probably need to spend some more time figuring out what it is you don't like about them.

I don't think anyone should be criticized for their own list of favorites - "You forgot..."'s and "What about..."'s have no place in someone else' selection unless they're trying to get videos pushed into some sort of higher recognition, like an art expo or something. I think the author asked to be reminded of what he was forgetting in case he wanted to replace one listing with a video that was on the edge of his memory.
That said, error1, I think you're being rude (with the new topic name, and your response towards Doopliss) towards these suggestions. Yes, we know that by only picking 10 videos, you're going to inherently hurt people, but you don't need to rub it in. You opened the floor for suggestions, you should respond nicely or not at all if there were videos that you remembered but didn't like that much. My feeling is that the article is going to be "error1's top 10 combo videos of 2010" as that's really what it is to anybody who can read a byline, and then if other authors on combovid want to do the same article, they should.

I would have to respectfully disagree with you there, but it's not the worst problem to have. Don't think of it as length, think of it as the ability to keep me interested.

your right, I apologize, thank you for pointing that out. I actually really liked every combo video on this page so far

Ok. Personally I think the optimal length of a video is 5-7 minutes. Shorter than that and I feel "it's over already?", if it's longer I tend to lose interest. I guess your opinion on optimal length is that it should be shorter?

I believe error can discount a video for any reason he wants. If someone hates my video because i use Ryu's colour 5 or taunt 4 then so be it. Who is anyone else to say that is a wrong reason to dislike a video.
You're first post comes off as very needy Doopliss, which is a shame, you're ace.
I also believe that if someone questions why you don't like a video, you should be honest. Calling error rude is a bit unreasonable, if he feels a video is repetetive how is he going to say that politely?

Pokey is right, I'd rather have a straight answer than a polite one. And if my post sounded "needy", that wasn't my intention.

Hey i tell people that their videos are too long all the time, but only when they contain uninteresting filler that should've been trimmed - like the first three minutes of that MvC1 Strider video. However if you're saying that the content is good but you're unable to stay focused, then that's a different problem.
It sounds more like an editing problem. But if you admit that it's an editing problem, then you have to admit that you'd have the same issue with all of my SSF4 videos if you watched them all in one sitting - which you'd have to do, since you're grouping them all into one unit. Not to mention, you claimed that editing isn't a factor in your criteria.
Anyway, i'm just babbling because i don't think Doopliss' videos get as much credit as they deserve. For the record i honestly don't care what you leave out or include in your list. You'll get pretty much the same reaction no matter what. Best case scenario is it creates a little discussion in the comments, with people posting their own Top-10 lists.

It's not really about length, It's that it feels long. It's hard to quantify, but how many
Yoga ping pong combos can you handle in one sitting. Now it's a great combo, and everything he does with it is really awesome, but around the third or fourth one I'm looking to see how much time is left in the video.

Yeah, I wanted to milk the concept to it's limits, however, I did my best to put at least one unique thing in every combo. Well, except for the two "
generic kick barrage" and "
generic punch barrage" combos. Well, I guess the punch one has the legit s.LP xx Super, which is very hard to do, especially on a fightpad where you can't pre-buffer it because the diagonals barely register. I just got lucky and managed to do it just right even though I had like 10 frames of delay.

Personally, that video could've been 2-3 minutes longer and i wouldn't have complained. Like if you combined all the Dhalsim stuff you'd ever done, i wouldn't have thought it was repetitive at all. And if someone ever makes a video like that for Rose, i'll enjoy the hell out of that too. But maybe that's just me.

You should at least change the thread title to "Error01's Top 10 Combo Videos of 2010" just to make it more clear that it's your personal list and not a poll or something.

So is this not happening anymore? It's obviously controversial and whatnot, but i still thought it was an interesting idea. Well, except for the fact that it's got a ridiculous amount of my own content on there.
I mean how unprofessional/embarassing would it be if Lakers.com posted their "Best NBA Plays of 2010" list and half of it was from Laker games? It wouldn't even matter whether the players were involved in selecting the list.
Haha yeah if this is gonna be posted on ComboVid then i'd appreciate it if it was skewed away from me.

Also there were a lot of really cool videos this year that weren't combovids, like the Zero Damage series from Combonauts, and SFB, to name a couple. Strictly speaking, BGM probably falls into that category moreso than pure combo videos.
I don't know. I really like the idea of a year-end retrospective, so i'd still like to see that happen in some form. Listing things (especially in order) is where you get into trouble, but whatever, them's the breaks i guess.

Who thought there would ever be a good combo video recorded with a camera? This is certainly the only one that impressed me. It's kind of dated now, but most of the combos where new at the time. If you can look past it's poor quality video, repetitiveness, and lack of sound effects you will find an underrated high quality video.

This guy has been really busy, making several high quality, lengthily combo videos. The yoga ping pong alone is worth the price of admission.

I'm not going to lie, I've been following this guy for a long time and I am a huge fan of his work. I won't talk too much about him, just know he is the greatest combo maker of our generation, despite only doing this a short time and you should really be subscribed to his channel.

The
Joo DVD he worked on was released this year, 6 million years in the making and over 3 hours long, truly the epicest combo video ever. This year also marks his retirement with
Variable Atmosphere 2 and his
Neta Compilation. Hopefully mvc3 will be so good it forces him to do a combo.
Alright more to come. What do you think about an article like this?

Yeah i'd be down for that. Though hopefully at least 3-4 sentences per item, just 'cause it looks kinda flimsy when it's only one or two lines, you know? Otherwise go for it. I think as long as it gets posted in the first week of 2011, it's still fair game.
