Majestic Screenshot Gallery

Post by Maj »

Boy, there sure are some amazing screenshots waiting to be tooken in this here world of fighting games of ours. I've got some to share and i'm wagerin' so do ya'll. (Two per post, to preserve bandwidth / reduce loading time.)

Image ~~~ Image

The first is a particularly cool still from the HSF2 intro, normally only displayed for 4 frames, which means most people don't know it exists. The second is kind of a Yin-Yang concept with SF2CE Shotos. Originally considered putting it on Chun Li's stage but the colors didn't gel.

edit: Replaced the SSF2 intro screenshot with an identical frame from HSF2, the only difference being the absence of "Insert Coin" text.

Here we have two scenes from my SF? Guile Exhibition combo video ...

Image ~~~ Image

The first is SF2HF Guile using Blanka as a projectile to break four barrels at once. The second shows how close SSF2T Guile gets to Vega's face when he whiffs that B+LK knee during the non-dizzy 100% damage combo.

All of these are from 'vid of dreams'. The first comes from a single glitch frame just before the super finish screen appears. The second is of dic having just done a psychocrusher straight over guile's head.

The first one is pretty straight forward but cool because of the identical costumes. In the second, chun has done a fireball high enough for sim to slide under it with lots of room to spare.

PS. awesome thread

Haha, lots of love for the oldschool SF2 series so far. It's ok though, i'm sure we'll start diversifying soon enough. No need to hurry.

Image ~~~ Image

The first is SSF2T T.Hawk landing his 720 super from max range against O.Guile's F+HK upside-down kick. The second showcases the startup frames of SSF2T Guile's F+MK hopkick and B+MK hopkick. Believe it or not, all three of Guile's MK hopkicks have different startup animations in that game.

Couple of ghetto pictures of Chun representing her people's gymnastics dominance ...

Image ~~~ Image

The first is SF2WW Chun Li doing SBK to match Ryu's wakeup animation. The second is SSF2T Chun stomping on top of Ken's handstand.

Elemental damage!

Image ~~~ Image

The first is SSF2 Dhalsim's Yoga Fire trading with Bison's Psycho Crusher, causing both characters to be lit on fire. This happens in real matches sometimes and i always thought it looked cool, especially when it happens at the end of a round. The second is SSF2 Dhalsim's LP Yoga Fire trading with Blanka's Electricity, during which he's considered crouching apparently.

And now for some Final Atomic Buster shadow glitches ...

Image ~~~ Image

The first is SSF2T Bison's HP Psycho Crusher with trailing super shadows and the second is SSF2T Fei Long's HK DP with shadows, both performed under the influence of Zangief's backwards/missed FAB glitch.

We conclude this SF2 series presentation with a pair of Super Combo Finishes:

Image ~~~ Image

The first is SSF2T Sagat's super DP hitting Dhalsim out of a jump and the second is SSF2T Bison's super killing Cammy after time runs out. Both screenshots are taken on the frame after the super explosion ends and the stage background (partially) reappears.

Does anyone remember that scene in Toy Story where Buzz shows everyone he can fly and Woody calls it "falling with style"?

Image ~~~ Image

The first is SF2WW Honda jumping over Zangief and whiffing j.MK, while Gief whiffs j.D+HP after jumping under Honda. The second is COTA Sentinel's sj.D+HP alongside Colossus' j.HP recovery, while some rampaging robot punches through a building in the background.

Colossus and Hulk take to the skies for minion hunting!

Image ~~~ Image

The first is COTA Colossus' Super Dive heading straight for Sentinel's MK Drones. The second is MSH Hulk's Gamma Crush squishing Blackheart's j.HP demons (except Gamma Crush only has one hit so the others are safe) while Blackheart starts up his Inferno special. The second one looks better because of the demon squish animation, whereas hitting Sentinel's drones doesn't even create a hit spark.

Wow, not even a single comment apart from the images desk posted. I don't think the rest of the world likes fighting game pictures as much as i do. Which is very surprising. And also very sad in a sad heartbreaking sort of way. The crying smiley isn't sad enough for this occasion. Maybe later i will install a more appropriately sadder-looking one and then edit this post to include it at the end to properly convey my emotions.

I'm actually enjoying the hell out of these. I just didn't think to post anything unless I had some screenshots of my own to share.. which at the moment I don't think I do.

[Edit]: False alarm. I do.

Image

Sakuya has performed a time-stop super and froze the opponent Youmu in place (for the amount of time that remains in her super bar at the bottom), in IaMP. However, if you look closely at the knives tossed by the Sakuya player during the timestop, they are all facing away from Youmu.
Looks like Jolly Ranchers & Baskin's Sherbet.

Sweet, that looks really cool. And thanks, i'm glad someone else is enjoying them. But it's still pretty sad if it's just the three of us. Post-Evo burnout?

Epic Super Clash: Episode 1!
(X-Men: Children of the Atom)

Image ~~~ Image

The first is COTA Silver Samurai and Storm both performing their supers which generate hitboxes in random patterns, so it's possible to get lucky for a little while. The second is COTA Iceman and Cyclops both performing air supers, which also collide unpredictably due to the randomness of Iceman's projectiles. Both took a couple dozen tries before i was satisfied with the results, but i think they turned out quite nicely.

Epic Super Clash: Episode 2!
(Marvel Super Heroes)

Image ~~~ Image

The first is MSH Captain America's HP DP (with Power Gem in effect) against Magneto's Magnetic Shockwave (with Space Gem in effect). The second is MSH Psylocke's Psi-Thrust (with Power Gem in effect) against Juggernaut's HK air Juggernaut Splash (with Space Gem in effect). Unfortunately, i couldn't get rid of the ugly wall of text because Psylocke's clones disappear on the first frame after her Gem meter runs out.

Epic Super Clash: Episode 3!
(X-Men versus Street Fighter)

Image ~~~ Image

The first is XSF Gambit's Royal Flush against Sabretooth's Heavy Armed Birdie, which looks somewhat better in motion. The second is XSF Ryu and Ken's Variable Combination against Akuma's air super FB.

I've actually been meaning to reply to this thread for a week. I really enjoy this kind of stuff.

This is all I've got for right now, but I'll have more later.

In A2, Ken's Fierce DP will light up the opponent before any other "hit" flags register. (Note that Ryu is still in neutral state animation, he has not taken any damage, there is no First Attack message, and the points have not been awarded yet.)
ImageImage

And of course this is old and everyone's seen it, but here's a still frame of O.Dic's st.Fierce.
Image

And how do you get multiple images on the same line, without the file names being displayed?

If you use IMG tags, you have some control over formatting. I've been uploading my pictures to a folder on my webspace and then direct linking to them here. There's probably no way to manage the way attachments show up though.

By the way, if you ever wanna know how someone got something to look a certain way, you can always QUOTE their post and check out their BBCode.

I've had mixed emotions about this thread. I don't think snapshots are as cool as clips but I can see how they emphasize a cool moment in the clip that may be hard to see in motion.

Image ~~~ Image

The first one is just Dhalsim sliding under cammy's drill. 2nd one is kinda elaborate: it's a result from an FS-AHVB. The cable that got hit by the HK is in that forced dash motion that happens after FS.

In countless cases, snapshots are way cooler than clips. First off, you get to look at a bunch of them at once and you can scroll between them with ease, which is great for making comparisons. Second, they don't require any bloated media player application. Third, a lot of scenarios are only cool for one frame so conveying them through video is not only a waste but also a hindrance. In particular, this applies to scenarios which are constructed to culminate in one moment and become uninteresting after that moment passes.

Some stuff (like your Cammy vs Dhalsim picture) is way better as a still frame because you see the entire concept at once, plus you get to study the most substantive part in detail. Most stuff (like your Cable vs Cable picture) is way better in motion because the meaning of the concept is lost when you press Pause. Personally i enjoy the first category just as much as the second, so that's the reason for this thread.
2nd one:Gambit doing super through ruby super they null each other.
Did you know that in MvC1, Gambit's Royal Flush can nullify most of War Machine's Proton Cannon? The only problem is that Proton Cannon outlasts Royal Flush so Gambit gets hit during recovery. But maybe in MvC2, Sabretooth's Birdie super can get through most of Iron Man's Proton Cannon and then DHC into Gambit's Royal Flush to take care of the rest. (This is an example of something that'd look cool in motion but terrible as a screenshot because the Proton Cannon beam blocks everything.)

Epic Super Clash: Episode 4!
(Marvel Super Heroes versus Street Fighter)

Image ~~~ Image

The first is MSF Captain America's Hyper Charging Star against Chun Li and Evil Sakura's Variable Combination. Just before the shot, Cap had called out US Agent assist who got swept by Chun Li, so he's making his exit. The second is MSF Spider-Man's Maximum Spider beating up on Ken while Armor Spider-Man whiffs another Maximum Spider. Took forever to get this shot the way i wanted it.

For the sake of permanent archival, i've gone through and hosted every posted image on my own webspace and updated all the posts with new URLs. If anyone actually objects to this, feel free to change them back. Otherwise, go on posting images as usual and i'll quietly continue mirroring all the files.

Also if anyone wants me to change the thread title, please speak up. I know it's dumb but in my defense, i was just being dumb. If you'd prefer a more descriptive or more general or more specific or funnier name, i'm open to suggestions.

Thank you sir. Things had gotten quiet for a little while before i started this thread, so i figured there was a good chance i'd be mostly alone in here. I'm glad i was wrong about that and i'm loving everyone's contributions. Keep 'em comin' sirs. Also comments/feedback/questions are good cuz they spread out the image posts, which makes it less painful to check out the last two pictures at the bottom of a page.

I think 3S shows the KO on the screen before the ko hit actually connects too, I remember seeing this on some really old TOSF Dvd.
Weird how that works. If I made games, I wouldn't let this slide XD
