Some characters protray things that I want better than others. However for the sake of an easy learn curve for SF vets to adapt to a new game, I'm going to focus mainly on Ken and Ryu.

For example, kara canceling a surprise blow (UOH) with Sagat. Naturally his SB moves him forward a few pixels, and from across the screen he can hit the opponent after doing like 16 of them. By kara canceling a crouching attack (kicks work best), he can get there in 4 or 5 (also sets up for a nice feint by doing a crouching attack which they'll attempt to block only to have it cancel into a UOH before it hits).

I'd been wanting to do a tag reversal from a tick fab but I haven't had any luck on tagging between the tick and the fab >.<

If I can finish this in a relatively fast time period from now, I would like to do certain tutorials for characters for top players. IE DreamTR if he enters the tournament is almost certainly going to try zangief, so a brief tutorial on gief will give Dream a decent chance at winning with this character.

I was rooting for the Ryu/Ken player but the Bison/DDark player was way better. In the last vid, Bison did kara-slide into FB super. That was impressive.

The one thing that SFEX3 has going against it is that most of the interesting characters are not Street Fighter characters. Ryu, Guile, Sagat, Chun Li, etc. are all boring compared to V.Rosso, D.Dark, Kairi, Shadow Geist, etc. so the game kinda forces people to switch to unfamiliar characters they're not particularly interested in playing. I guess Bison is up there too, but still not as versatile as the locals.

well just because the old characters aren't new and can only have so much new additions in terms of moves and such, that doesn't neccessarily make them bad players.

Justin Wong who is good in EX2+ and EX3 primarily plays Ken and Ryu. Jeron tends to play Sakura, Ken, Ryu and Blanka.

So you can hang with the old characters, its just the new characters are still fresh and interesting.

It's not a matter of good or bad. The issue is that V.Rosso's crazy dash/teleport gimmicks look more fun than anything Shotos get to do. It's a bit discouraging because i want to be doing all of those fancy mixups, but it would take too much effort to make myself interested in that character. Shadow Geist's combos look really cool too - way cooler than anything Guile's got, for example.

Anytime i see a match video with traditional SF characters versus EX newcomers, the SF characters always get upstaged and end up looking bland. Even when something cool is going on, there's that thought in the back of my head that i'd get owned up for free. It doesn't seem to matter that i have decent Street Fighter fundamentals and SFEX3 is supposed to be a Street Fighter game.

Does that make sense? I'm not hating on your game. Just trying express my hesitations, in case they might contain some insight that you could use toward making a more accessible (less frightening) tutorial.

Well I won't argue since that defeats my purpose, but I look at it as though if it gets people to try other characters than ones they they've been playing for 15 years and explore the game a little then I'm glad.

On that note Gen released 3 more matches against the same shop keeper

Haha what's up with the evil laughing in the background?

Alright, so who do you consider to be the most fun to play characters in EX3?

lol I guess that might have been Gen or maybe someone else at the store mimicking Bisons laugh when he does the knee press.

Most fun? I can'treally say since I play as many SF2 characters as EX originals. I love me a good Dhalsim and Zangief though. I have fun with them, and similarly I love a good Dark, Rosso and Pullum, though I lack the execution to really enjoy Rosso and Dark. I pretty much have fun with everyone (cept Skullo, Sharon, Blanka and Nanase) lol.

Haha that was awesome! How come the animation looks different between your two tries?

Also, your video played with correct aspect ratio, then i clicked on a so-called related video. But when i clicked my browser's Back button, the aspect ratio of your clip was all stretched out horizontally inside the youtube box. I thought that was weird, though a lot of your videos are stretched the same way.

what I do is that I record the video at 480i and then deinterlace it to 480p but I don't stretch it so its essentially 240p.

Most media players will automaticly stretch it to the 4:3 aspect ratio and the player resizing it actually works faster than if I resized it and sent it out at true 480p. Plus true 480p is more of a memory hog (ram use and video size for DL) than 240p.

Thats what I tend to distribute to the public meanwhile I keep the super HQ version on my own computer lol.

For the taunt, that taunt actually has 2 stages.

PPP is the chest thrust which you can momentary from. During PPP you can press KKK to do the 2nd taunt with him throwing his arms up and thrusting his hips. you should be able to momentary from that as well. However most people can only predict well enough to do the PPP so that the KKK has no use. This video shows that the KKK actually has a purpose, however rare that occurance may be (prior to this video most EX players including Gen, Jester and myself didn't know what the KKK part was for other than to show off lol).

just some old combo videos from ukyo. This is the pal version so it'll play slower than what you may be expected to

I do think he has it on high damage settings though.

if luck holds out I should be getting some matches in tomorrow so I'll see if I can bring my VCR and record some of them.

I got everything I needed, except for my remote for the VCR.... so no matches >.<

though on the way back I was checking out VCR/DVD Recorders at Best Buy and Frys, but I didn't find a single one that accepted an input greater than S-video (looking for component, VGA, HDMI something). The guy at BB I asked was surprised that this was the first time anyone ever asked him if he had something like that. And he's never seen or heard of anything like what I was looking for.

Aw, Guile keeps losing to D.Dark. You're pretty good at FK xx FK super. How come Sonic Hurricane didn't hurt Blanka?

At almost all times the person that is tagged in has the advantage, they almost always get first act after a tag for both characters.

Also D.Dark was acting like a human shield and preventing the sonic hurricane from reaching blanka.

Hah, that is funny. I'm surprised there aren't more infinites and lockdowns resulting from momentaries.

Well several momentaries don't move you forward, or don't do so enough for it to work, some don't even hit the opponent and/or leave you in a position that you can't momentary again (in the air). The only others one that could work like that is Chunli and Sakura. But there is such a large start up on the heinshu that after a loop or two the opponent will easily counter. Sakura's only works on a crouching opponent. Even the one above isn't a safe block string you can tag reversal or just plain reverse before the skullo slider hits.

BTW that skullo slider will be in my tutorial video lol.

Speaking of which I've made a more advance preview. Looking forward to any advice to what to change etc..
this is a bit of a preview of how it looks. obviously I have the uncompressed version on my harddrive but I'm looking for feed back on subtitles, screen placement (joysticks are fixed at that position so don't bother mentioning those lol). Maybe wording it a bit differently.

lol I forgot that top players like to abuse stuff like that. Maybe how the wobbles got some SRK members into SSBM, skullo momentaries will get them into EX3.

Well, i don't like wording at all, but i don't know if you should try to fix it. I mean do we really need an explanation of 2-in-1's? Everyone knows Ken can cancel low forward into fireball or super. If you're using this as a step on the way to introducing SFEX3-exclusive cancels, then you're better off not explaining it at all. While you cycle through a couple of buffering demonstrations, write something like, "Like any other Street Fighter game, SFEX3 allows 2-in-1 canceling." That's all you need. You don't need to distinguish between specials and supers in text. Just let the clips and the joystick movement animations do the talking.

If you're 100% set on explaining 2-in-1's, then change your wording to be as concise as possible. Reading three lines always takes more than twice as long as reading one line.

Thats where I'm on the fence. On one hand I know some players that play SF2 or SF3 know how to do all of these things so it shouldn't be spelled out for them. However there maybe players that never played SF and upon seeing the video they may want to get started. So giving them enough information is essential.

It doesn't matter who you're showing this to; by now everyone is familiar with low forward xx fireball. Everyone has seen it in a video or a trailer or a magazine. Like i said, it's ok if you want to mention it but i don't think it's worth explaining.

But that's just my opinion. Hopefully some of our tutorial experts will chime in with more experienced advice.

I was bored and decided to try out that momentary thing. After about 10 mins I got get 14 reps (both specials) for about 50% damage, woo!I don't think it's hugely difficult when you get the rythm, on a par with some marvel infs but without all the joystick motions. It seems to leave you hella vulnerable after either move whiffs though so maybe it's not that useful unless you have it really wired.

pre post edit, just got 17 reps. Looks like 34+ would be 100%. It's pointless but I'm going to keep trying, lol.

EDIT: just read what you wrote about escaping it shinji, haha should have looked at that before I wasted 20mins. Just tested and you can just tag out... what a swizz. Is the sak one inescapable? maybe I'm doing it on the wrong character but it seems like there's a huge window.

well if you miss you've got supers to back you up against any retaliation.

well good for you for getting it down. i don't really play skullo to even bother trying lol. much less trying to get it in the heat of a match.

also are you using pal or ntsc? just curiousity.

for sakura, all they gotta do is stand up and then she can't momentary anymore. and that is a lot of space between specials, so it should definitely be tag throughable, or easy reversal aa.

for the tutorial, my computers got a virus >.<. so I may have to reinstall windows. and format everything. so I'll try and focus on my cigarbob type cab that I'm attempting on bulding for MWC as well.

Before you format that hard drive, try connecting it to a working computer using an IDE/SATA to USB adapter or something. Your Windows system files might be damaged but maybe you can still retrieve your own files. Try not to run any programs on the hard drive though, in case the virus got to them.
