Re: Yo check this out yo
Gah, I have had this in my head for like a year now, and seeing those Koryu edition videos made me think about it again. I was thinking about how a more complex EX system would work in SFIV:
General:
Yellow EX: Just normal EX moves. Done by pressing LP+MP/LK+MK.
Every EX move costs 1 EX bar.
White EX: This is like a super EX move. Done by pressing MP+HP/MK+HK.
Costs 2 EX bars, but have great comboability, invincibility, or damage.
Basically an EX move of an yellow EX move.
Red EX: Red EX moves depletes your HP instead of your super bar.
Costs 10% Live (Or 100 points of HP) to perform. Doesn't fill up the revenge gauge. Generally a more offensive, "angry" or desperate move.
Done by pressing LP+HP/LK+HK.
EX FA:
Yellow EX FA: Like in SFIV.
White EX FA: 3 bars, cancels the move instantly, without doing an FA and therefore the need to do a dash. (Which makes the name kind of misleading, but whatever) LP+LK to cancel a move (Couldn't think of a better input).
Red EX FA: Automatic backdash, costs 25% HP. MP+MK with less than 2 EX bars.
Some moves might only be Red EX cancelable. Supers and, maybe ultras as well (?), may be red EX cancelable, costing 50% life instead. Doesn't fill up the Revenge gauge.
Some examples of how it could work (didn't think these through balance-wise, but it's just a basic idea).
Ryu.
Hadoken:
Yellow EX: 2 hits, knocks down, Juggles.
White EX: 3 hits, juggles, frame advantage (basically like Ken's EX Hadoken xx FADC in that regard).
Red EX: 1 Hit, knocks down, Juggles, very fast movement, bad recovery.
Srk:
Yellow EX: 2 Hits, juggles.
White EX: 3 Hits, massive invincibility, juggles.
Red EX: 1 hit, poor invincibility, poor horizontal range, juggling afterwards possible (more so than Lp SRK). Not FADCable.
Tatsu:
Yellow EX: 5 hits, knocks down, juggles.
White EX: 7 hits, advances fast, fireball immunity, knocks down.
Red EX: 2 hits, slow, powerful, knocks down.
Air tatsu:
Yellow EX: 5 hits, juggles, stop momentum.
White EX: Moves quickly to the other side of the stage, suction effect on ground.
Red EX: 3 hits, rises in the air a little in desired direction, juggles, allows normal air moves afterwards.
Ken:
Hadoken:
Yellow EX: 2 hits, Juggles.
White EX: 3 hits, juggles, knocks down.
Red EX: 1 hit, diagonal fireball, juggles.
SRK:
Yellow EX: 4 hits, juggles.
White EX: 8 hits, kinda like a mini shinryuken, juggles. Anti cross-up.
Red EX: 2 hits, knocks the opponent far away.
Tatsu:
Yellow EX: 6 hits (Or whatever it has), fast advanceing movement.
White EX: 9 hits, ends with a axe kick which pops the opponent into the air.
Red EX: 1 hit, wall bounce, not free juggle state though.
Air tatsu:
Yellow EX: 4 hits, Juggles, great horizontal movement.
White EX: 4 hits, even greater horizontal movement, changes direction of movement.
Red EX: 1 hit, knocks down, sends Ken downwards into the ground, where he can land safely. Good instant overhead.
Chun-Li:
Kikoken:
Yellow EX: 2 hits, good range.
White EX: 3 hits, very fast, knocks down, Juggles.
Red EX: 6 hits, close range, like a mini Kikosho.
Hyakuretsukyaku:
Yellow EX: 4 hits, knocks down, juggles.
White EX: 9 hits, like her Houyokusen super art in 3S. Knocks down. Input: "K, K, K, K, 3K"
Red EX: 3 powerful hits, knocks down. Good invincibility, slow. Input: "Hold and release 2K"
Spinning Bird Kick:
Yellow EX: 5 hits, knocks down, invincibility, juggles.
White EX: 8 hits, greater invincibility, moves upwards, knocks down, juggles.
Red EX: 3 hits, knocks down, advances forward fast.
Hazanshu:
Yellow EX: Knocks down, fast.
White EX: Homes over the entire field, 2 hits, as slow as HK Hazanshu.
Red EX: Slow, great invincibility, slams ground, sending the opponent into the air. Think seismo hammer.
Guile.
Sonic Boom:
Yellow EX: 2 hits, very fast, juggles.
White EX: 3 seperate booms, slow, juggles.
Red EX: 1 hit medium slow boom, poor recovery, alternate input: "QCF+2P"
Flash Kick:
Yellow EX: 2 hits, juggles, OK invincibility.
White EX: 3 hits, hits behind, great invincibility, juggles.
Red EX: 1 hit, advances forward, no invincibility.
And my favorite:
Vega:
Remove Claw.
Yellow EX: Remove mask (Minor defence nerf and damage boost, only costs 1 EX bar).
White EX: Throw mask and Claw (Throws his mask and claw forward, getting the same buffs as remove mask, and making a 2-hit projectile of sorts).
Red EX: Destroy Mask. (takes 30% live and requires mask and claw equipped. Destroys his mask with the claw, scratching his face in the process. Gets a minor defence nerf and a big damage boost).
My opinions on the system:
Pros:
+ More options, more fun.
+ White EX FA allows all characters to do FADC combos of some kind.
+ Red EX FA doesn't make everything safe and is very expensive, and therefore it doesn't make the game even more defensive.
+ Red EX moves in general makes it harder to get ultras, and easier to save Super gauge for your Super.
Cons:
-A lot harder to balance.
-Makes the game harder to play on a pad.
-Might scare people of with so many seemingly new moves.
What do you think? Do you know of a game with a similar system?

Re: Yo check this out yo
Seems like it adds a lot of unneeded complexity to the game. Doesn't each special move already have enough variations. I like the idea of a red special move better, but rather then costing life I think it would be better as regeneratable damage and make it so you can't special cancel into red moves.
But really if I was going to add anything to sf4 it would be air blocking.

I love videos like this: Gangway!! I want to go a-cho...
I was hoping some one would make videos like this for CF and hot spots on the west side.

Dude i don't know if you've ever been to Cali arcades, but they're all in the boonies. Every last one of 'em. Do you know what the Mexican restaurant across the street from FFA is called? "MEXICAN FOOD" - no joke.
Believe me, nobody's ever going to hold a giant tambourine festival down the street from Denjin. Mostly because there aren't enough people in the entire world who know how to find that place.

LOL I don't care about the stupid festival, that was the boring part of the video. CF isn't exactly glorious either.

Cool music.
Hmm, is there any place to download large versions of the 2k2um portraits?

Re: Yo check this out yo
Well the snk playmore site has them grouped into teams like in that video, and they are kinda small. If you have the individual portraits rather than the team portraits that'd be cool and appreciated.

It's also funny to me because that's like 15 minutes from my NJ house. Never thought of it that way.

I kinda read those as comparing a new scene starting up to an old scene fading out.
Re: Yo check this out yo
Bah, there will always be an old scene. It's like i wrote on Rithli's u2b channel when MBAA won the Evo2k10 slot:

Also, that NY Times article was fantastic (minus the random stab at Yipes' weight wtf, not that he would care much), sure am glad I uh..."waited" to finish my game community doc. I can read quotes from this, or show stills. Thanks for the link.

I'm still lucky in Asia (especially, Japan, Korea and China) the arcade life it's still beating heavily. Come on, you can find arcades 24 fucking hours open!
My 32 years old don't allow me to stay that long, though...
