Sorry about the triple post, but...

I noticed that the Blanka combo at 1:05 in your TACV video did a Medium Solution to my combo challenge, do you mind if I cut it out of the video and put it in my challenge result video to show people it can be done? I'll say where it's from ofc.

Um ... Sure, if you don't mind the background and lack of Attack Data. I don't have a Training Mode recording of that combo unfortunately.

It's cool, I'll just add numbers to count the scaling or something. I would've recorded it myself, but FA trades are hell to do manually imo, and it's not like the rest is easy either.

I'm also never successful with FA trade -> jump-in...anybody know some magic for doing it by hand, in training mode etc.?

I usually just have the dummy do turbo jabs, then I try it until it trades. Either that, or I jump with the dummy, and jab as soon as he lands, then I time it.

Actually, that reminds me - Maj, it seems like you used to have your FA trades start with the attacker absorbing a hit, and then you had the second hit trade - did you realize later that the first hit wasn't necessary, or were you doing it so people would understand that it was a Focus Attack?

I usually do the same if I have to trade with lvl.3 FA, I don't know, but it might have armor during the first active frame or something, because trading with it is nearly impossible imo.

Oh yeah, when I go for it, I usually have them doing slow attacks so I can absorb one hit, then hit them with the focus, but that's 'cause I'm doing it manually...since Maj is using a programmable pad (with which there are clearly no mistakes! only artistic choices) I wondered if there was a reason for it

Oh yeah, didn't think about that, how silly of me.

Up until ep-7, i used to think it was necessary to wipe away Focus Attack armor in some situations, particularly at close range. I don't know why - it just seemed easier to find the trade point when i killed the armor first.

Around ep-10, i started to realize that it wasn't required in most of the situations where i'd been using it. Now i'm 99% convinced that it's never necessary. But i still like using it at point blank range sometimes, mostly to illustrate which attack i'll be using to trade; especially when it isn't otherwise obvious due to range/startup. Though sometimes with standing attacks, i'll wipe away the armor with close s.LK or whatever, then they'll lean away right before the active frames and end up trading with far s.LK instead.

Here's the result video. A little too extensive perhaps, but meh.

Wow, very nice... Very thorough... & i enjoyed it.

It was a shame you didn't show the combos you "liked" though.

I just linked them via annotations because:

1: Didn't wanna steal.
2: Didn't want to make the video one minute longer.

Whoops, didn't realise you could click the names.

In that case nevermind what i said, it's good shit man! You gonna proceed with these challenges? If so i'll post up some random ideas i have for challenges if you want. I thought up a few of them, but now they've slipped my mind. One of them was:

---

Pick a character & do all 24 trials.

`Super` Easy mode - If at any point Dans super meter fills up, it's game over (Unless the combo is completed on that combo)

Easy - If Dans super meter gets over half way, it's game over (Unless the combo is completed on that combo)

Normal - If dans meter generates one block, it's game over. (Unless the combo is completed on that combo)

Hard- Hard Mode + Add something to every combo (where possible)

---

Not really one that could be showcased in a quick 10 sec vid though, so i wouldn't imagine many responses. You could make it just the "Hard" mode but with only one trial, but part of the test is the execution of it all, giving someone unlimitted retries on a single trial kind of kills of the skill.

I had more but they've slipped my mind, i hope they come back :P

I was thinking about something along the lines of "do a combo including a move of every punch/kick strength", but I need to balance it so it's not too easy/too hard.

We already have the 4 of a kind challenge.

Gen Jump HP -> Crouch LK -> Crouch LP -> Stand MP -> Stand MK -> Super -> HK

If you did do that i'd make it normals only, if you make it so that specials count it'd be dead easy. Withuot FADC this could be difficult, but with it it's to easy.

Strange

---

Challenge Concept #2 - Perform a combo with at least 4 moves or more, starting with an aerial hit.

It might work, but i think it will omit alot of the casts capabilities, i would like to see what people come up with though. I'd imagine some characters like Blanka or Guile will have a hard time breaking the 3 moves gap. it's be childs play with Seth.

EDIT - Oh i thought that one up last time... Damn.

Probably should've split this whole combo challenge tangent into its own thread a long time ago, but the discussions were always interwoven so i left it alone. I figured it was now or never though. Luckily it worked out pretty cleanly this time.

Blanka can probably do three: "AA lvl.3 FA Trade, Ultra 1, Super". Guile can probably do "df.HK, Flash Kick, Super, U2".

How many characters can use 5 (or more) EX bars in a combo? How about without repeating moves?

I assume you mean combo, not move. I tend not to find those all that aesthetically pleasing... and I expect there'll be a lot of stuff reminiscent of the 4-of a kind challenge.

It depends on the move. The whole charm of repeating a special move five times in a combo is picking a special move that isn't even supposed to combo twice. But that gets lost in the challenge format because everyone's first instinct is to conquer the challenge rather than build something fancy.

Yeah, the 4-of-a-kind challenge was neat because of the subtle-ish versions of the moves.
