Super Freeze Stuff

Post by Snoooootch »

I am doing a video soon in which I'll be slowing down ONE special move from EACH character. I decided to ask people what they wanted to see, so I'll ass you guys first.
Is there a move you'd like to see slowed down?

So far I have been asked to do Gouken's ex tatsu by a friend.

If you guys want to see a special move super frezed from your main, let me know.

If i were to choose one, something fast & nuts. I'm not fond of Chun li, but EX Spinning Bird Kick is both fast & nuts. love the super freeze videos btw. But i know in truth it's your subtle way to get everyone to see the entire cast of street fighter pounded by Fei Longs Super Rekka.

Besides that i think Dee Jays EX Jackknife Maximum might look good.

lol, I'm actually planning to use Makoto. Although her Super has to reload as the meter dies out and she turns back from red to tan. But, Her super freeze causes no electric discharge and spreads each frame to more than Fei's Super. Everything looks cleared and there's no annoying flash to cause epilepsy. But yeah, I was planning to do Chun's Hazanchu in a preview video along with Bison's Phyco Chusher. I'm so excited!

EX MGB.I think it gets full screen in a couple of frames, and the rest of the billion frames startup are just him moving his arm, no running, if you get what i mean.

I like Chun's c.MP and Zangief's s.HK that looks like SF3 Ryu's stepkick. Dee Jay's EX upkick and super are interesting too.

Btw if you want an alternative to superfreeze, you can also record stuff immediately after KO - everything moves in slow motion for like two seconds.

Yup, Maj, I've thought about it, but it seems too complicated to land certain moves. Especially for non fireball characters. So far my list is this:

Edited*

I remove characters I've done. I have to re do some because the combos I was working out for them didn't fit the special the way I was hoping.

Abel - His Roll
Adon - Rising Jaguar
Akuma - Demon Teleport (By Request)
Balrog - Turn Punch
Blanka - Electricity
Cammy - Immediate Canon strike
Chun-Li - EX Hazhanshu (By Request)
Cody - Bad Spray (By Request)
C. Viper - Burning Kick
Dan - Back dash
Dee Jay - Both EX Jackknife Maximum, and EX Machine Gun Upper (One for the preview)
Dhalsim - Lp Yoga Flame and Teleport (One for preview)
Dudley - EX Machine Gun Blow
El Fuerte - EX Habanero Dash
Fei Long - EX Fire Kick and Lp Chicken Wing (One for preview)
Gen - Oga (Off wall jump)
Gouken - EX Hadoken and Tatsu (One for preview)
Guile - Flash Kick and Sonic Boom (One for preview)
Guy - Lk Tatsu
Hakan - EX Shower
Ibuki - Illusion Dash
Juri - Wheel Kick
Makoto - Axe Kick
M. Bison - Psyco Crusher
Rose - Soul Spiral
Rufus - EX Messiah Kick
Sagat - Low tiger shot
Sakura - Hadoken charged all the way
Seth - Teleport, and maybe EX Sonic Boom or Tanden Engine
T. Hawk - Whiffing Command Grabs for Humor
Vega - EX Sky High Claw
Zangief - Quick Double Lariat

I'm wanting to go with only Special moves. It's a long list, but I plan to release this as soon as I can.

Btw, have you done Dan's super yet? You should >.<

One move you could check in slo-mo would be Akumas EX air fireball.

Oh man, Dan's super is gonna be amazingly hard. It takes like 30 years before it's over. So does his super taunt... but I plan do do both the day it is his turn. I just finished dudley today but am still waiting on mikey for my music. It'll be up by tonight, and I must say, it is the best one yet. I got 59 frames for some reason. I think I missed like 12 frames, but it's un-noticeable in some parts.

Oh, and ex fireball, I thought the Red hadoken would look a lot better sense he has that evil aurora behind him, but I'll take a look at his ex hadoken, cause I can't think of what it looks like. lol

Gah, I'm so excited to upload this!

tool asistence would help out for this kind of thing, if makoto's superfreeze is longer I wonder if you could do it without the zoom in at the start

Well, what I've discovered is that No matter who's super I use, the time spent in super freeze is still ONE frame. Ibuki spreads 1 frame by .67 seconds. Fei by 1 second, and Makoto by 1.3 seconds. But they're all one frame spread through the time spent powering up the super freeze, or whatever that is.

interesting, akuma and gief are exceptions of course because they don't have a super freeze slowdown.
Have you tested to see who has the longest? I know rose is long and seth is short just because they make easy ultra glitch setups but haven't done any real testing

Trying to calculate how long a totally precise stretching of one move would be...when reading frame data, what do asterisks (*) and parentheses() mean? if it says active frames are 2(4), etc, does that mean 2 on whiff, 4 on block/hit?

Pretty sure parentheses are for multi hitting moves, for the frames between hits. Asterisks are for multihitting moves when you can't use parentheses for some reason (i think).

Well, after checking out the majority of the characters i thought would have a pretty slow super startup animation, Makoto seems to have the slowest one.

take chuns close mk
start-up active recovery total
4 3(7)2*2 16 33
that means the first hit comes out on the 4th frame of the move, it has 3 active frames, then the second hit comes out 8 frames later, it has 2 active frames, then the third hit comes out on the next frame and has 2 active frames, the * is just so it doesn't read 22. 3+3+7+2+2+16=33

Re: Super Freeze Misc. Video

I was curios so I decided to test it each time measured in frames from the first zoom in frame to the first zoom out frame, may not be entirely accurate but should give a relative time
All the vanilla characters, but gief and akuma
Boxer 74
Seth 73
Abel 73
Dictator 69
Cammy 66
Guile 63
Claw 62
Rose 61
Blanka 60
Honda 60
Sagat 60
Fei Long 59
Dhalsim 59
Ryu 59
Ken 59
Viper 59
Rufas 59
Sakura 59
Gen P 59
Gen K 59
Dan 59
Dan ( taunt ) 59
Chun 58
Fuerte 57
Gouken 47
59 frames seems to be the normal time, Goukens is way quick and Boxer is the slowest, my guess about Seth being quick was way off it seems, wonder why it seems harder to do the ultra glitch on him.

I could automate it, but that would require getting a copy of SSF4.

I get aprox 83 frames for makoto based on your video

Problem is that Claw's super freeze isn't instant and therefore a lot harder to time.

yeah, I got 86 frames for Makoto on my software. I'm glad you guys looked into it! And I'm surprised I never though of Vega, although it'd be harder to time certain things with it. If only I had the stuff to do it tool assisted. lol

If you'd like to collaborate, I can try collecting footage for one of the stationary moves.

Canopus ADVC-110 capture device. (Standard def DV - you can see sample images on my hitbox site.)
Xbox 360.
Homebrew double-barrel computer controlled sticks. (Currently P1 is an SE stick, and P2 is a PS360 pcb.)
http://www.pedantic.org/~nate/HDR/controller/

The software I use to drive the controller has some limitations, but if you want to run the same thing over and over 100 times with slight timing differences it's probably a good way to go.

Wow! Well, by all means! See, my plan is to do, you know, one special move, but the way I will start those up is through a combo. the combo will set in motion, and as soon as the special move comes in, I'm going to freeze the combo and shift it to a little box on the top left and do the super freeze animation. Once the animation is finished, I'll bring back the combo screen and finish the combo. SO, if you'd like, you could start on just capturing said animations on the list above. If you record them frame by frame in synchronized the editing would be a million times easier! So, if you WOULD like to help, i'd say, start from the bottom up on that list. Let me know if you can!
