Marvel vs Capcom 3 NYCC News Roundup

With the weekend over, it looks like that’s it for MvC3 announcements from New York Comic Con. We now have four new characters to think about: Arthur, Spencer, Magneto, and MODOK. Isn’t it strange to have so few Street Fighter characters, especially following SF4’s success?

For more detailed information, including first impressions, exclusive interviews, and first-hand panel reports, be sure to check out Shoryuken’s coverage of NYCC.

    I personally feel that the less SF characters the better. Notice how there are around 4 X-Men characters now, compare that to MvC2.
    Furthermore not every SF character can be transferred to an MvC like game and have their moves work out well.
    Finally MODOK is the best thing to happen to fighting games since…1991.

      MODOK is an interesting choice, but an overall awful character(20+ years of insignificance). I think they included him because he’s heavily featured on the Marvel Super Hero Squad kids show. That being said, I think they should’ve slapped a couple of Mandarin’s power rings on him to give a little more to do.

      I’m not sure whats going on with the Capcom side of things though. Characters like Spencer (the remake one, no less) and Trish are mindbendingly strange; who could have wanted them? I doubt even the most broken, bloated MUGEN dream casts don’t have Trish in them.

      I’d like to see some more SFcharacters in the mix. C. Viper and Rufus would make great additions, or Juri or Akuma since the Capcom side needs more villains.

    M.O.D.O.K. has had a comic resurgence lately. He was the mastermind in the last hulk story line, and has had a few one shots in the last couple years. He has certainly been in more comics lately then Dormammu, but the reason they chose him is the same as shuma-gorath, he’s unique.
    Two SF characters isn’t enough, C. Viper and Seth seem like the obvious choices.

    C.Viper wouldn’t be a bad choice, but Seth is way too bland for a Marvel game. You probably couldn’t design a more boring-looking character if you tried. His whole body is one color and it’s gray!

    But then again, Capcom could turn just about anyone into a Versus character. Blanka could have ball flight mode, where he’s a constantly active rotating ball that you guide around, except he bounces off whenever he connects to prevent infinites.

    Marvel side needs more cosmic characters. And i’m still waiting for Dr. Strange. Wouldn’t it be sad if Dormammu made it in over Dr. Strange?

    • error1 says:

      The main problem with Dr. Strange is that he is depowered in the comics right now, same reason Cable is unlikely, because he is currently dead. Dormammu isn’t as big an insult as Shuma-Gorath making it over him. Brother Voodoo might be a better choice, they need a token black guy and Luke Cage wouldn’t be very interesting.

      Dr. Strange was stated to not be in the game in a previous stream or interview.

      …and I really don’t see how Shuma Gorath is unique ^_^;
