MatchVid of the Day: Bagwoon/D44 vs K/Gunter (CvS2)

Apparently this is the conclusion of a 2-on-2 Capcom vs SNK 2 tournament where each player had to pick one random character? So of course Bas basically wins it with R1 A-Bison alone.

players: Bagwoon (C-Ken/Sagat/ChunLi-2) and D44 (A-Bison/Hibiki/Blanka-2)
                vs K (C-Akuma/Blanka/Sagat-2) and GunterJPN (A-Bison/King/Blanka-2)

observations:
There’s an interesting moment at 0:58 where K lands a half-nice/half-ghetto Raging Demon setup, then he kind of backs off and allows Bagwoon to throw out a roll DP. Obviously he could’ve punished the roll and won the round immediately, but when you think about it, getting Demon’d tends to make people anxious. There was a chance that Bagwoon might have done a super after that roll, so maybe K was giving Bagwoon an opportunity to waste all his meter before dying? Not a bad idea. It didn’t matter in the end though, because D44-Bas is too damn good at this game. Did you know that he invented Bison’s far s.MP? True story.

each one had a random character? If K’s random character was Blanka he should have won. They should force D44 to play a R4 Bison

  2. Maj says:

Honestly i’m guessing about that. Akuma isn’t a character you see too often anymore, King is bottom tier and i’ve never seen Gunter pick her, and i know Bas doesn’t play Hibiki. But maybe the “Random” in the title refers to random team pairings?

  3. error1 says:

he just seemed too good with Akuma for that to have been a random choice. Maybe everyone needed a non blanka/sagat/bison character or something.

  4. Maj says:

Eh, everyone went through an Akuma phase at some point. The only thing he did that struck me as especially skillful was the j.D+MK divekick to RC Demon Flip to perfectly spaced crossup air fireball at 1:35.

But then again, every CvS2 player goes through that phase where tigerknee air fireball seems like the coolest trick ever. The key thing is he doesn’t really seem to have a gameplan against A-Bison.

I thought the “beauty” of a-bision is that there is no gameplan against him :/

  6. Maj says:

Haha you always need a gameplan. Just because he’s a stone cold killer doesn’t mean your gameplan should be suicide.

  7. n00b_saib0t says:

Oh I know, I just feel like the a-bison match up can be described with a flow chart like this…

Does he have meter? -> yes -> well shit… :(

Does he have meter -> no -> do his buttons work? -> yes -> damn

I do better against sagat, blanka, cammy, vega, etc. I know there are ways to fight a-bison, I just never could. Its not like he’s broken or anything, I even suck at the bison match in SF4 so I might be the wrong person to comment on anything bison.

  8. Maj says:

Hahaha way to take yourself out of conversation dude. You couldn’t end that with something like “but I’ve never once lost to Bison in Street Fighter 2 Turbo even on 8 stars difficulty, so I consider myself an anti-Bison expert”?

See how much better that sounds? It’s all about presentation.
